City Officials Announce Agreement to Acquire Property for Future Campus Supporting People Experiencing Homelessness

The City of Long Beach and Ninth District Councilmember Rex Richardson recently announced an acquisition agreement made with a North Long Beach property owner at 6841-6845 Atlantic Avenue (“Atlantic Farms”), Long Beach, California 90805. The final sale, which will be pending City Council approval on February 5, 2019, will set the stage for a state of the art village-style campus of supportive services for people experiencing homelessness. Supportive services will include a much-anticipated year-round homeless shelter with 125 beds. If the sale is approved by City Council, the City’s Economic Development department will convene a visioning task force for the property.
City Partners With Tech Company To Develop App For Small Businesses

The City of Long Beach has joined forces with a Pasadena-based tech company to deliver mentorship and assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs planning to start businesses in Long Beach. Together, the City and its partner, Start It Up, are developing an app that connects local entrepreneurs with experienced mentors who can guide them through the at times arduous process of starting a small business. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Panorama is Coming to Long Beach!
Long Beach will soon be home to Carnival's newest and largest cruise ship, the Carnival Panorama, making it the first new Carnival ship stationed on the West Coast in two decades. Carnival Panorama will debut with a special three-day inaugural cruise from Long Beach on Dec. 11, 2019, followed by the launch of year-round, seven-day Mexican Riviera sailings on Dec. 14, 2019.
Kiva Long Beach
Through the Kiva Long Beach initiative, Long Beach entrepreneurs can access no-fee loans to start or grow their business, and residents can help local small businesses with loans as small as $25. With a dollar-for-dollar loan match provided by the Los Angeles Local Initiatives Corporation ( LA LISC ), Kiva Long Beach borrowers can accomplish their fundraising goal quickly.
Long Beach Startup, Gravity Ball, launches Kiva LB Campaign!
Gravity Ball Health Systems, which was launched in 2016, stemmed from a desire to provide a solution for those individuals who aren’t able to do resistance exercise using traditional equipment. The team is currently funding a Kiva Long Beach loan that will be used to create The Gravity Ball Method™ certification for instructors and trainers and creating educational videos to accompany the certification instructional training. The Long Beach Post: Crews Break Ground on 271-unit, Mixed-income Residential Project in Downtown

After receiving approval from the Long Beach Planning Commission last June, construction crews have broken ground on an eight-story, mixed-income residential complex at the southeast corner of Seventh Street and Pacific Avenue in Downtown. Headed by Holland Partner Group, the development will bring 271 units (and 341 parking stalls) to two separate buildings connected by a sky bridge.
Port Technology: Long Beach Hails Record-Breaking 2019
The Port of Long Beach has set an all-time cargo-handling record for the second year in a row, after exceeding a throughput volume of 8 million TEU for the first time in its history.  

According to Executive Director Mario Cordero, who discussed Long Beach’s achievements at the annual State of the Port address on January 23, 2019, container moves increased by more than 7% in 2018 compared to the previous year.
