I recently joined CAPI as a Senior Research Fellow, and it has been energizing to engage with a wider lens and examine some of the structural issues and risks facing the agri-food sector. One such structural file I’m working on is the 2026 Digital Agri-Food Report, which builds on the foundation laid in 2025. CAPI’s 2025 report, The Future is Digital examined the state of digital agriculture adoption in Canada, assessing the economic and policy barriers limiting uptake and evaluating how those constraints affect productivity, competitiveness, and long-term sector resilience relative to global peers. If 2025 was about surveying the landscape of digital agriculture and identifying challenges, 2026 is about action.
Last month, Tyler wrote about the risks and pressures confronting the sector, a prelude to our 2026 Risk Survey Report. We know these risks and pressures because we live them. Naming and acknowledging those pressures matters. But what matters far more is that we respond to them and act to overcome them. That we have the difficult conversations and exercise agency over what we can control.
