Since joining in 1988, the California Land Surveyors Association has been an important part of my professional life and career. Each and every day some event, conversation, or thought connects me to experiences I’ve shared with you.
I’m excited about the opportunity to be President for the year 2020. The last three years as an officer on the executive committee have gone by in a flash and there is still much to be accomplished. As president, I’ll be busy with many priorities, making sure our other officers and committee chairmen have the direction they need to accomplish our goals and objectives and providing a fair and unbiased platform where our directors can present your issues.
Committee staffing is important for sharing the workload. I’m asking every member to consider serving on a committee. Committees are the backbone of the Association and where the work is accomplished. Our board of directors meets quarterly to act on recommendations from the committees.
Our challenges can be met. Membership is declining with most civic clubs and associations around the country, including CLSA. Many people have shifted their group participation to digital forms, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, forums, or Meetup. Our website, social media, events, and other forms of outreach can and must adapt. Outreach will increase membership, which is a very important part of CLSA.
Speaking of membership, I’m asking you now to renew, and to recruit your colleagues and employees to join this year. Make your voice heard, join and be active in your local chapter. I’m committed to working for the association to make it worth your while to join, and with your help, to grow as the leading voice of Land Surveyors in California and the nation.
Sincerely,
Keith W. Spencer
President 2020
