The Research Team Begins Spring Session

This international interdisciplinary cohort of scholars from around the world is shedding new light on the intersection of theology and the built environment. The five colleagues from the fall are now joined by three new colleagues: theologian and architect Elise Edwards of Baylor University, architect Nesrine Mansour of South Dakota State University, and religious studies scholar Martin Radermacher of the University of Bochum in Germany. Edwards’s work on racial justice as well as Radermacher’s work on dignity nicely complement theologian Murray Rae’s interest in what makes for a flourishing city, along with Whare Timu’s design project for an urban Maori community, Stephan de Beer’s work on the role of faith-based groups to help build more inclusive African cities, and Kyle Dugdale’s related work on the hidden religious nature of the modern secular city. In addition, Mansour’s analysis of sacred spaces and buildings in virtual reality bears important insights for Tammy Gaber’s research interest in sacred spaces and particularly in mosques in sub-Arctic regions.
