Happy February!
Have you ever been so busy working
in your business instead of
on your business? I'm totally guilty of this myself!
Valerie, our Membership Coordinator, and I just returned from the Annual Western Association of Chamber Executives Conference at the Disneyland Hotel. We had a wonderful time stepping away from the office to work together ON our business. Our business, is your business! Our job is to serve our members and act as the business community's right hand.
One of the speakers at the conference shared a "working on business" trick that Walt Disney would practice. He would walk the park and ask the employees how the park could be made better for them. He knew that happy employees have higher productivity and create a better time for those they are surrounded with. More often than not, the changes and upgrades made to the park were ideas from those on the front lines and not those stuck in an office.
So, I have a challenge for you this month. I challenge you to spend some time working on your business instead of in it. Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Ask employees for their opinions, share best practices with your business neighbor, maybe buy lunch for your team and reflect on 2018 successes and goals for 2019. Or, send us some suggestions on how we can better serve you! I'd love to hear your experience and the outcome.
Thanks for stopping by! See you on February 20th at the State of the City Address!
With gratitude,
Mandy Le
