Joel Keenan, MD has practiced in Maine for 20 years. He and his wife, Heidi, and their dogs, Toby and Q Tip comprise their small, solo primary care practice. A board-certified internist, Dr. Keenan graduated from the University of Vermont medical school and completed his internship and residency at Yale University.
Convinced that healthy food and exercise help prevent and cure our leading causes of death and disease – heart disease, stroke, cancer, and dementia – Dr. Keenan enrolled in a nutrition master's degree program at the University of New England; he’s midway through that now.
At talks, he has given in Maine and New Hampshire, Dr. Keenan describes how and why our modern sedentary lifestyle with a diet rich in processed foods is at the root of many problems that plague us, from insomnia to atherosclerosis.
Knowing how we live and what we eat can bring us huge health benefits has inspired Dr. Keenan and his patients to focus on food and exercise as a core part of their relationship.
And he has integrated into his practice the work of two pioneers in the search to better diagnose and treat people at risk for heart disease. Drs. Brad Bale and Amy Doneen offer a comprehensive approach to that problem by searching for the root causes of atherosclerosis, the basis for most forms of heart disease.
