Celebrating Black History Month — Heritage, Community, and Connection

This February, the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce proudly honors Black History Month — a time to recognize the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black leaders, innovators, and community builders who enrich our region’s culture, economy, and spirit. We are especially proud to have a diverse Board of Directors and membership whose leadership and perspectives make our Chamber stronger, more inclusive, and better equipped to support all local businesses.

We hope many of our members were able to attend recent events, including “Together We Rise: Strength in Diversity, Success in Unity”, a community dialogue and networking event hosted by the San Leandro Black Chamber of Commerce and Public Library on February 12.

Across the Bay Area, there are still meaningful ways to engage this month — from programs like “The Sound of Heritage: African Drumming” to the Black History Month film screening of Stormy Weather at the San Leandro Public Library on February 26, as well as other regional celebrations that honor culture, history, and resilience. These gatherings celebrate heritage, support Black‑owned businesses, and foster meaningful community connections.

Black History Month is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate present contributions, and continue uplifting Black leaders who enrich our region every day. Together, let’s keep building a community where all voices are heard, valued, and celebrated.

Farmers Market Looking for Vendors:

In 2026 the market will take place every Wednesday from April 1 through October 14 from 3PM until 7PM in the Main Library parking lot (300 Estudillo Avenue) and draws between 2,000 and 2,500 visitors each week. San Leandro businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in the Merchant at the Market program, which offers a table for local businesses to set up a promotional stall and connect with the community. Each week there are two tables available, but the schedule fills up quickly!

For more information on the Merchant at the Market opportunity, and to submit an application, view the 2026 Merchant at the Market and Community Services Booth Program Rules (link below)

Businesses may sign up for multiple dates, subject to availability. There is no cost to tabling, but participants are required to be present during the entire market (3PM-7PM). This is a unique opportunity to engage with the San Leandro community and promote your business!
