Marine's Logos Over the Years
Company founder Bud Egan hand drew the original logo in 1944. It was primarily used on delivery trucks until the early 1960s when it was incorporated into advertising in the Inquirer and Mirror.
In 1973, the company changed its name from Marine Lumber Co. to Marine Home Center. The logo was updated and used for the next 43 years. In 2017, the company modernized its logo to the one used today!
Over the last 80 years, we have stayed true to our 'Marine Green' color and our iconic anchor.

There’s Romance In the Air!
According to current home style publications, glamour and a touch of femininity is an appealing direction for this year’s look in home décor. At the start of a New Year, I get the urge to refresh my home and a new paint color is an easy fix.
The color of the moment is pink, from blush to berry. Pink can infuse a room with vibrancy or serenity, depending on the shade. Benjamin Moore’s Raspberry Blush is perfect for a dash of excitement on one wall, in a dining room, or in a hallway. To create a sense of calm, Farrow & Ball’s Shallot should be called "Perfect Pink". And if you want to tiptoe into pink, Farrow & Ball’s Middleton Pink is as classy as its name.
Not quite ready for pink walls? Introduce pink with a variety of accessories like candles, hand towels, placemats and napkins. I used Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe, a rich gray, in my powder room pictured above. It’s the perfect background for pink hand towels, a delicate, rose-patterned teacup filled with rosebuds, a bar of pink soap, and framed black and white photos on the walls.

"The perfect pink" for
Valentines Day!

"This is Shallot, our perfect pink. A refreshingly classic but electrocuted version of the shade with a blue undertone" said designer Christopher John Rogers in collaboration with Farrow and Ball.

Not so long ago, I would not have guessed that magnets could be so useful on my job sites. I might have thought one would be handy to fish out a chisel dropped down an HVAC duct (it was), but I would not have foreseen how often I use them today.
I frequently use lights, lasers, and levels equipped with magnets. My 4’ level is great for setting up steel shelving as we have been doing at Marine for our 80th anniversary refit in the Hardware Department. With the level firmly gripping pieces and parts, adjustments can be made with an eye on the bubble and two hands free for turning wrenches and placing shims.
For layouts across wide areas, lasers are hard to beat, but sometimes hard to place. Many are now fitted with magnets for mounting. When there aren’t any magnet-friendly surfaces, there are brackets available with metal plates that can be hung on a screw or a nail.
Magnets have also helped to put an end to working in dark corners, being built into a number of battery-powered lights. If I can’t find a ferrous metal surface for a magnet light, I tack one up to a wall or ceiling to give me light wherever needed. Assuming, of course, it doesn’t harm a finished surface!
Magnets are now even included on the ends of some measuring tapes. This is for use on metal studs and door jambs, but I’ve used mine for something completely different: retrieving the table saw’s arbor nut that had fallen way down the dust collection hose. It worked like a charm and saved taking the system apart. I don’t drop that nut often, but when I do, it’s nice to send the tape in after it!
