Valentine's Day, February 14
LOVE Park
What better place to celebrate Valentine's Day than in the City of Brotherly Love's LOVE Park? The iconic LOVE sculpture by artist Robert Indiana is among the City's most famous landmarks, known worldwide. 5 fun facts:

  1. The LOVE statue is officially located in John F. Kennedy Plaza (now known as LOVE Park); the Plaza was created by legendary city planner Edmund Bacon, father of film actor/singer/native son Kevin Bacon.
  2. Robert Indiana created his first LOVE for his personal Christmas cards in 1964, and in 1970 constructed the aluminum sculpture that he then lent to the City of Philadelphia for the U.S. Bicentennial.
  3. The LOVE sculpture was installed in the Plaza in 1976, removed two years later and sent to New York, then reinstalled by popular demand after local businessman F. Eugene Dixon, serving as chairman of the Philadelphia Art Commission, bought it and donated it to the City of Philadelphia.
  4. Now synonymous with Philadelphia, the LOVE image has been recreated on thousands of items ranging from postage stamps to home decor to jewelry.
  5. As part of a 2017-18 $20 million renovation of JFK Plaza, the LOVE sculpture was restored, repainted, and reinstalled in its original LOVE Park location, where it can now be seen in its original color scheme of red, green and purple (previous restorations had incorrectly painted the statue in red, green, and blue).
