A Recipe for Peace

Dear Friends,

In the past we have been told about a purple soup that was called FlyLady Soup? It was made with Black Beans that look purple. Did you know that you have a pie too! I like to think of it as Peace Pie!

We all start each day will a whole pie to call our own. During the day we make the choices that give away our pieces of Peace Pie. This is a special pie that nourishes you as well as feeds your soul. I am going to give you the recipe for this pie!

It starts with the desire to have a "Peace" of Pie! This peace has to come from a whole pie. So here goes with my recipe for this delightful pie.

Every pie I have ever made has a crust. This pie has a top crust and a bottom crust! This crust is made from the finest ingredients for a great foundation. These are the habits you put together to make up your routines. We start this pie the night before we want it with our before bed routine.

This is the bottom crust that holds up our pie of Peace together.

It only takes a few minutes to make this crust.

Lay out your clothes for tomorrow

Check your calendar

Shine your sink and clean up after dinner

Clear off a hot spot

Put things in your launch pad so you won't forget them

Brush your teeth

Wash your face

Go to bed at a decent hour and sleep.

This crust is a pleasure to make when you think about the joy that it is going to give you tomorrow morning when you put together the rest of this glorious pie of Peace. That alone is a great incentive. There is nothing like the taste of Peace Pie!

The top crust we will put together when we first get up in the morning. It starts with getting up a few minutes before the flow of the rest of the family. This enables you to get dressed in peace. Do you see how you can have your pie and eat it too? The pie isn't even made yet but you are beginning to feel the taste on your tongue. The rest of your morning routine of checking your calendar, putting on your shoes, seeing what's for dinner on your calendar, making your bed, eating breakfast and starting a load of laundry help to make this top crust fit with the bottom crust.

Now we have to put together the most luscious filling for this pie of Peace. This filling is made of our basic weekly plan and having the ingredients readily available each day we start our pie. A weekly home blessing, staying on top of Mount Washmore, planning our meals, grocery shopping, getting rid of our clutter 15 minutes at a time and taking time for you are the ingredients that make this pie melt in our mouths. Without them is the crust is very hard to put together.

Think about this. You can't lay out your clothes if you have no clean laundry. You can't pull out something for dinner in the morning if there is no plan and you have not gone shopping. This filling makes this pie of Peace tasty.

Your habits put this pie of peace together every day. Your lack of effective habits makes it impossible to sit down and enjoy this pie. You have a choice build your pie and enjoy it or to give away the ingredients.

Once your pie is made then you have the ability to share this peace with others and not feel deprived.

This pie is dusted with granulated sugar that is your attitude of love for you. You no longer feel that someone is stealing your pie when your buttons get pushed by family or a simple mistake. You find yourself enjoying the day instead of dreading what's next. This pie of Peace becomes the nourishment for your body and soul. It blesses all around us and you made it with your own two hands!

Can you taste this Pie of Peace?

Why is My Car Always Dirty?

Dear FlyLady,

I have had great success decluttering our home. For some reason I keep procrastinating about cleaning out my car. I still can't seem to gain control over that mess. Clutter is always falling out. Please give me some motivation to get my car clean and keep it that way.

Ashamed of my Vehicle!

Dear Ashamed,

You don't have to feel ashamed another day. We have a basic weekly plan to help you establish a day to clean out your car. Here is an essay I wrote to help us tackle this final frontier. Your perfectionism is why you don't clean out your car. You don't think you have time to do it right.

Don't procrastinate another day!

The Final Frontier

UFOs are Un-tethered Flying Objects in your car! Yes you know the ones I am talking about! Our cars are usually the last frontier when it comes to getting organized. When I was a small child I was hurt by bottle in our car. I still have the scar to show for it. Think of it this way when you are riding in a car going 55 mph if you have to stop abruptly everything in the car becomes a missile. Think about being hit by a baseball or a bottle that was thrown at that speed.

Here is the worst thing about UFOs in your car! You are embarrassed for anyone to ride with you. I know because I am just like you! My car has been clear of clutter on the inside for almost two years. There is no telling how many accidents have occurred because a bottle rolled out from under the seat. Then it got under our foot or brake and we reached down to get it.

So how do we stop from cluttering up our cars? We have to establish simple habits that will keep the clutter eliminated.

1. Don't eat in your car. If you do, then bag up the trash as soon as everyone is finished. The bag the fast food came in is a great bag to hold the trash. When you get out of the car, find a trash can.

2. Every time you get home empty the car of things you put in it before you left. Not only will this keep your family safe from UFOs but it will deter thieves. When there is nothing in the car there is no temptation to break a window. My purse was stolen from my car once when I went into a funeral home to pay my respects.

3. While you are filling your car up with gas; play a game with the children to pick up the trash in your car. Then throw it away. They can hand it to you through the car window after you have filled up.

4. Keep things in your trunk, confined in zippered bags or under a cargo net in your van or SUV.

5. Establish a day for blessing your car. Fill it up, Clean it out and Shine it up! We do it on Fridays. We have some simple tools for this; Purple Rags and Rubba Scrubba. Rubba Scubba sweeps the floor and seats. Our purple rags get the windows sparkling and dash clean. That is if you put them in your hand and use them.

Don't put your family's safety in jeopardy because you don't think you have time. Think of it as Swish and Swipe for your car. Daily maintenance takes less time than a whole day clean up to get ready to go somewhere with strangers in your car. Be sure and keep UFOs contained in the trunk or glove box.

It's Friday time to Clean Out Your Car Day!

April's Habit: Making Your Bed

April's Habit #11 One Thing Leads to Another

Dear FlyLady,

I make my bed every day!

This was the easiest monthly habit for me to master thanks to a testimonial my very first year with you.

Okay, okay, I have a confession. I do not make my bed as soon as my feet hit the floor. How does BEFORE my feet hit the floor sound?

One of your flybabies shared how she would move like she was making a snow angel under the covers. While this isn't exactly what I do, it did give me the idea of starting the process before getting up.

First I put the pillows in place. Next I lean over to the far side of the bed and pull the covers to the proper place. Then when I get up all I have to do is straighten my side and ...Done! It may not be that dreaded "P" word, but it's made and I don't even have to think about it..... it is just part of getting out of bed now.

I think simply taking away that extra step of walking around to the other side of the bed was the magic. So, thanks to that snow angel flybaby out there for sharing.

That is the very reason I'm sending in my very first testimonial. If it helps even one person, it will bless them, and me! Honestly, I wish the other habits had been this quick for me to pick up.

Lastly FlyLady, thanks to you and all of your flyfairy helpers. You're truly like a FlyFairy Godmother. Thank you for answering your calling to help and bless so many.

Know that you are truly loved.

The CHAOS Cure! ~FlyLady

This Week we are in Zone 2; our Kitchens!

The kitchen is the heart of our home.

Focus on one little part — reclaim your kitchen sink. Empty everything out of your sink, shine it up, fill it with hot soapy water, and start washing dishes, one at a time.

  • Do a 27-Fling "Trash" Boogie. Trash is clutter. When the bag is full, take it outside, right away, to the trash bin.
  • Clear out your mail hotspot. Get rid of the old magazines, catalogs, and advertisements.
  • Clear the clutter off your counters one at a time.
  • Clear the clutter off your kitchen table.
  • Take a peek at your pantry. Don't pull everything out and start reorganizing; just take a look, see what you need, and start a grocery list.

If your kitchen is clean but still cluttered: start decluttering. Check out our daily missions. FlyLady usually sends out one during the week which concentrates on decluttering one small area of your kitchen.

Friday is our day to Clean Out Our Cars and Purse; then plan something for Date Night!

We use each Friday as our Declutter your Purse and Car day. This only takes a few minutes and saves us lots of time later. Without the candy wrappers, old receipts, and other trash in your purse, finding your car keys becomes a breeze! Removing all the clutter and trash from your car ensures that you won't be hit by any UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) in the event of a crash. Set aside a few minutes just for these two tasks each Friday. Here's a list of things to toss:

  • Old gum and candy wrappers
  • Soda bottles
  • Scraps of paper/old receipts
  • Drive thru bags and cups
  • Jackets/coats/shoes

Set your timer and get to it.

"Decluttering is contagious!" ~ FlyLady

Friday is also Date Night. Relationships have to be nurtured. If not, you are going to wake up one day when the children are grown and not know the person you chose to spend your life with. It is up to us to make sure we grow together! Now don’t think I am going to leave out you single people! We all have relationships! Some are marital and others are friendship. As for those friendships that you have let fall by the wayside because your home was too messy for people to come over, it is time to pick up the phone and just say hi!

Relationships are not just inanimate objects; they are made of people with feelings. When we open up our hearts and let someone else in, we become better people! We can’t just ignore the relationship and expect it to stay the same. People need attention! You need attention! If you give it, it will come back to you! I promise.

Zone 2 Mission #5 Friday

Dear Friends:

Today is our last day in the Kitchen. For today I want you to grab your broom and your mop. Sweep your kitchen floor really well and then mop. There are several ways to mop a kitchen floor and no real wrong way. Hot soapy water and wipe. There is no "perfect" mop and no "perfect" way to do it. Just Do It!

Don't obsess and get caught up in perfection! It won't matter if you don't mop the way your Mother did as long as you do it. Remember House work done incorrectly still blesses your family!

FlyKid Mission #5 Friday

Hi Kids,

Today we are going to go into the bathroom that you use and help by picking up towels and dirty clothes on the floor and placing them in the hamper or taking them to the laundry room. This is a good thing to do to help your parents out. This will only take two minutes. Set your timer and ready set go!

We have a Student Control Journal for you, it's FREE.

Five Star Review

The FlyLady is Such a Good Motivator! I Don't Cringe When People Pull Up Unannounced. I am Happy!

I highly recommended this book for any type family or single person no matter what age you or your children are. I was a fly baby for a short time years ago and recently, I found you on fb about 6 months ago. I ordered the book and have really enjoyed the revival in my heart and my house.

AMAZON

I used to cringe in agony when I would see people pull up in the driveway now I don’t. Just like Marla says the husband has started organizing and getting rid of his stuff too. The teenage boys are a work in progress. I loved the tips on , the delicate cycle, storing sheets under the bed( I’ll Have more room in my linen closet and that’s major when you are limited on closet space like us) .

The FlyLady is such a good motivator! I have found my self quoting her and singing the songs. Earlier I was cleaning and was upset about something having water spots and Marla popped in my head and said “that’s your protectionism “ and I moved on.! I so wish I would have stuck with The Flylady years ago when the kids where younger but, so glad to have her now.
