KENTUCK DAY FESTIVAL - JULY 29

It's time for the annual Kentuck Festival in downtown Crandon Saturday, July 29, with fun for everyone from one end of Lake Avenue to the other. This popular summer festival celebrates the heritage of many of the area's early settlers from Kentucky, with this rich history of families  to be featured by the Forest County Historical Society booth. With artist and crafter booths, flea market, great sidewalk sales, specialty food booths, and live entertainment on the grounds, there will be something for everyone to enjoy!  Add the biggest little car show in the Northwoods to the list and you won't want to be anywhere but in downtown Crandon.

The day kicks off with the 6th Annual 5K Moonshine Run/Walk.  The Moonshine Run starts at 9:00 a.m. (registration begins at 8:00 a.m.) and will wind its way through downtown Crandon and end near the Kentuck Day Festival grounds on the courthouse square.  Registration is available that morning or by contacting joshjaeger84@ gmail.com. All proceeds will benefit local youth sports.

The 15th annual Kentuck Klassic Car Show will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Weber-Hill Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.  An entry fee of $10.00 can be paid upon registration, taking place from 8:00 till 11:00 a.m., at the show grounds.  Chair Susan Hill says some changes are in the works for this show, but the great setting and hospitality will still be there.  Food and refreshments will be available on the grounds and DJ Rusty will be playing tunes throughout the day.  Whether your vehicle is show ready or a work-in-progress, plan to attend and show pride in your ride at the Kentuck Klassic Car Show.

Over 100 vendor spaces are already reserved for the huge art and craft show set up on the courthouse lawn. The south end c ourthouse square is where the flea market section is set up along Polk Street.   Many local restaurants plan to have a 'Kentuck' special on their menu.  Some will be set up in the courthouse square, along with area groups, to serve their scrumptious specialty food items.  Plan to grab a 'bluegrass burger' or one of the many other mouthwatering homemade treats!   Live music on the grounds by "Hand-picked Bluegrass" will take place from 11:00 till 3:00 p.m. Brandt's Horse & Wagon Rides will be back for leisurely rides around the Courthouse Square.

Last but not least, area retailers put their sale items out on the sidewalks - from one end of Crandon's main street to the other!  While you are checking out the 'best bargains of the year' at the sidewalk sales, don't forget to stop in all the unique specialty shops.
KENTUCK DAY FESTIVAL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
to make this important event a success!  This event has grown over the years and that has greatly increased the need for additional volunteers to help with set up, staffing the food booth, manning the gates, and help with tearing down after the event, hauling tables back to the garage, as well as stowing all the supplies.
Please contact the info@visitforestcounty.com if you can give a few hours.

ALSO:  Looking for any group who wants to receive a donation for wrangling the garbage throughout the day.  The commitment would be from around 9 am through 5 pm.
Nicolet Wolf River Scenic Byway Signing Underway
After the recent official designation of the Nicolet Wolf River Scenic Byway by the State of Wisconsin, work has been taking place on the website and promotional planning to showcase what travelers can see and do along the way.  Signage to designate the route has also been taking place, with the official state scenic byway symbol - the wood violet - popping up all over. To put forth an extra sense of pride, the Forest County Economic Development Partnership spearheaded the effort to sign the entry for all routes to Forest County with distinctive stone signs.  The first sign is being completed in the Town of Hiles along with their brand new electronic sign.

The efforts of many, many people over the past several years has finally resulted in this important, official designation that will be a big and ever-increasing draw to the area.  A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony is being planned for mid-August.  Watch for upcoming details!
