T.G.I.F.! Celebrate the weekend with great programs, great music, and great links.
Library News: Yoga, Music, Coyotes (oh, my!)
How much are you missing yoga?! We are so excited to announce that you'll be able to take Stacey's Saturday Morning Yoga class on Zoom ! Starting tomorrow, our 9:30 a.m. yoga class will be available virtually. To participate from home, register on our online calendar before 9:00 on Saturday mornings ; once you register, you'll receive an email with a program link and you'll be on your way to a weekend of wellness.
Louis is back with another classic look at hoopla . Being at home may have made him a little loopy, and he may not be as current with music as he thought ("What is Dua Lipa? It sounds like a heart condition"), but he picked some great music for you to stream for free with hoopla . Watch his video here, and then head to hoopla to listen to his picks (best part? hoopla doesn't have a waiting list, so you can listen on demand).
This was one of our most-anticipated programs of April, and we are thrilled to be able to present it online! The Wolf Conservation Center is doing a free and fascinating webinar on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom . Join us to learn about a clever creature during Coexist with Coyotes. Click here to register ; registrants will be sent a link to access the program.
While the library is closed, our staff is here to help you, and we've made it easier than ever for our patrons to get help from our Spanish-speaking staff . You can call for help with your library card account, suggestions for what to read next, or to be an ear if you just need to talk. To reach our Spanish-speaking staff directly, call (914)502-9446, ext. 350, Monday through Friday from 10-6 and Saturdays, from 11-3 .
This is huge: Ancestry.com and the U.S. National Archives have opened up access to 500 million records and images, allowing people to explore their family histories from home . They also offer support for those just getting started on their ancestry journey, as well as lesson plans for K-12 students. If you've ever wanted to explore your genealogy, now is the perfect time!
Links we loved this week
If you're working remotely and having a hard time adjusting, take solace in this: at least you did not spend an entire meeting with a potato filter on .

Vanity Fair takes a look at the history of Purell , which is much more dramatic than you'd assume.

John Krasinski has started a YouTube channel with the aim of sharing good news, which is lovely: heart-warming stories, happy moments, and even a reunion with Steve Carrell.

Another online storytime--but this one may be our favorite of all. LeVar Burton will be hosting readings on his Twitter three times a week: stories for adults on Friday nights at 9 p.m., children's books Mondays at 12 p.m., and young adult books on Wednesdays at 6 p.m . Now the Reading Rainbow theme song is in our head...and we kind of love it.

Culture from your living room: The Globe Theatre is streaming Shakespeare plays , including a version of Twelfth Night starring Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance.
Remembering Bill Withers and Tomie Depaola
Tomie dePaola, who died this week at the age of 85 , wrote or illustrated more than 270 books for children, the most famous being the Strega Nona series ( click here to hear Mary Steenburgen read it! ).

Authors and illustrators paid tribute to him across the internet, but our favorite was Jarrett J. Krosoczka sharing the story of the role Tomie played when he first met his now-wife . It's a storyline from a romantic movie, except all the more meaningful because it is real.

The amazing Bill Withers died today at 81 and leaves a legacy of unforgettable music. Our five favorite songs:
  • Ain't No Sunshine
  • Lean on Me
  • Lovely Day
  • Just the Two of Us
  • Grandma's Hands

On this day in 1964...
How is this for musical dominance? As Louis mentioned in his video, the Fab Four had a run on the Billboard chart that has gone down in history. This week in 1964, The Beatles occupied the top five spots on the Billboard charts :

  • 1: Can't Buy Me Love
  • 2: Twist And Shout
  • 3: She Loves You
  • 4: I Want To Hold Your Hand
  • 5: Please Please Me
