August has arrived, and there's plenty to look forward to at Senior Community Services! Your August Senior Center calendars are now available, making it easy to plan fitness classes, educational programs, special events, and opportunities to connect with friends all month long. In this week's Friday Five, we're also recognizing the 61st anniversary (sorry we missed 60 last year!) of Medicare and Medicaid and making sure you know that SCS' PA MEDI counselors are happy to make sure you're informed about recent changes that could affect many older adults. Plus, you'll find photos from Good Neighbor Senior Center's patriotic birthday celebration, upcoming summer events, and a few fun ways to make the most of the season at your senior center.

Medicare and Medicaid 60th Anniversary

Sixty-one years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law, creating programs that have helped millions of older adults and families access affordable health care. As we celebrate this milestone, it's also important to look ahead. Recent federal legislation includes changes that may affect Medicare prescription drug coverage and other health care costs for some beneficiaries in the coming years. If you're unsure how these changes could impact you, our PA MEDI counselors are here to help. Their free, unbiased Medicare counseling can help you understand your options, compare coverage, and prepare for future changes.

Good Neighbor's Red, White, and Blue Birthday Bash

Good Neighbor Senior Center members kept the patriotic spirit going during their annual White and Blue Birthday Bash! Members enjoyed music, festive decorations, fun giveaways, and plenty of laughter while celebrating July birthdays together. Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration another memorable afternoon.

Soulful Summer Jam at Chester is Later This Month

Get ready for one of the highlights of the summer! Chester Senior Center's Soulful Summer Jam returns on Friday, August 21, featuring music by DJ Breeze and a live performance by Obadiah and Friends playing your favorite R&B, soul, and Motown classics. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 and must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door, so don't wait to reserve your seat for this unforgettable evening.

Cool Off with an Ice Cream Social at Schoolhouse Center

There's nothing sweeter than spending a summer afternoon with friends! Join us at Schoolhouse Senior Center on Tuesday, August 11, for an Ice Cream Social filled with delicious treats, conversation, and summertime fun. Be sure to reserve your spot and come celebrate the season.

Bring Your Pet to the Center Day at Friendship Circle

Mark your calendar for August 20 when Friendship Circle Senior Center hosts Bring Your Pet to the Center Day! Whether your companion has fur, feathers, or scales, this special event is a fun opportunity to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives.
