Compressed Gas Association names Richard Gottwald President and CEO
The
Compressed Gas Association (CGA) Board of Directors has named
Richard Gottwald as CGA President and CEO, replacing
Michael Tiller who retired this year.
“I am honored to join the team at CGA. I look forward to working with the Board and the staff to build on the history and successes that have made CGA such a critical component to the success and safety of the compressed gas industry,” said Gottwald.
Before joining CGA, Gottwald served as President and CEO of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP). He joined APSP in 2013 and realigned the organization to be a unified voice to protect existing markets and to grow new business for its members. Prior to APSP, Rich served as executive vice president for the International Sign Association (ISA) where he was responsible for providing oversight and leadership on the regulatory, legislative, and technological challenges and opportunities facing the sign industry across North America. Gottwald has also held senior management positions in several trade associations including executive vice president for the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, president of the Plastics Pipe Institute, and executive director of the Society of the Plastics Industry.

Toll Company Invests in Employees
Toll Company of Plymouth Minnesota is a 100% employee-owned gas and welding distributor that is setting a new standard for employee engagement and retention. According to the company, employee ownership empowers the staff to make decisions and do what they believe is best to service the customer’s needs.
“We have invested in equipment, new product offerings and streamlining our costs, but at the heart of all our endeavors are the people,” said Toll Company President
James Quicksell. “Our decisions are not made in a vacuum. We have a collaborative environment which has produced our biggest successes. We have chosen to add talent and skills to our company at every turn and it is paying off.”
In addition to fostering open communication for future initiatives, Toll Company also involves employees in sharing the wealth, both in terms of profit sharing and even selecting company outings, such as this trip down the St. Croix river.
What does making an investment in employee engagement mean for a distributor? “We are going to leverage the knowledge our people possess and undertake initiatives and expansions that were once the sole domain of national gas distributors,” Quicksell said.

In our communications with members and research for the GAWDA publications, we often come upon links that are worth sharing. For example, in this issue, we are sharing a link on exploring Seattle and another that explains the ABC method of warehousing, due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the speech on this topic at the SMC. Check it out, and if you come across any links you like, please send them to
