The nonprofit sector entered 2025 facing familiar pressures: uneven donor participation, staffing strain and growing uncertainty about the year ahead. Amid these and emerging challenges — including federal funding cuts — new research shows where generosity is holding steady, where it is concentrating and where opportunity still exists for organizations willing to adapt.

1. Global Charitable Giving Reached $2.3 Trillion

Philanthropy continues to operate at an enormous scale, reaching $2.3 trillion worldwide in 2024.


2. Affluent Household Participation Drops to 81%

High-net-worth households still account for a disproportionate share of charitable dollars.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Clifton Cultural Arts Center (CCAC) is excited to announce that applications for "New Woman," a juried group exhibition showcasing art from women artists in Cincinnati, are now open through Jan. 30. In addition to having their work shown during the exhibition, one winning artist will be selected from the group show for the biennial New Woman Fellowship at CCAC, receiving a solo exhibition and honorarium in the following year.


Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is grateful to The Erma A. Bantz Foundation for a $15,000 grant for Adaptive Daily Living and Safe Travel Instruction and Equipment for People with Severe Vision Loss.


ChangingGears is grateful to have received $20,000 from the Charles H. Dater Foundation for our Automotive Technician Training Program. This generosity will help EMPOWER our neighbors in need through our FREE four-week career training program.


Know Theatre of Cincinnati is grateful to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation for awarding the organization a $25,000 grant through its Vibrant Places initiative. This support will advance Know Theatre’s capacity-building efforts, strengthening staff infrastructure to better serve artists, audiences, and the Over-the-Rhine community.


The Samaritan Car Care Clinic in Covington is pleased to share that it has received a grant from the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Foundation Northern Kentucky Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. This grant will allow the Clinic to address transportation barriers for multiple low-income families referred to the Clinic by Northern KY based social service agencies.


HER Cincinnati, the region's oldest social service agency focused on Housing, Education and Recovery for local women, presents HER Unfiltered, an evening centered on the lived experiences of women who have rebuilt their lives with honesty and courage. The event will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026, 5:30pm to 8:00pm at Memorial Hall in Over the Rhine. Tickets and more information about the event can be found here.


Easterseals Redwood held its annual Brighter Futures Celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at the American Sign Museum. Each year highlights several outstanding individuals (and one very giving community partner) in a powerful awards ceremony that honors their stories of accomplishment. 2025 award recipients: Outstanding Community Partner - The Farmer Family Foundation, Independence Award - Karena Girten, Growing Abilities Award - Lucy B., Spirit of Easterseals Redwood Award - Diamond Snowden, Upward Mobility Award - Bentley Edwards.


The 56th annual Cincinnati Home + Garden Show will return in 2026 to the newly renovated Cincinnati Convention Center, after a one-year hiatus due to convention center renovations. Organizers are gearing up to welcome the Queen City to the reimagined show, which will be held the across two, three-day weekends for the first time ever: February 20–22 and February 27–March 1, 2026.


People Working Cooperatively's Annual Prepare Affair volunteer event provided fall cleanup services for low-income seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. Approximately 2,000 volunteers gathered for the big volunteer day on Saturday, Nov. 15, to rake leaves and clean gutters at more than 700 homes. More information can be found here.


Adventure Crew and long-time partner Roads Rivers and Trails (RRT) hosted their annual Outdoor Fashion Show on Wednesday, December 10 at The Barn in Mariemont. Highlights of the evening included a social hour and a runway show featuring sustainable outdoor clothing and gear from RRT. The event raised more than $6,000 to support Adventure Crew's programs, which connect city teens with nature and each other through engaging outdoor adventures. 


Charm at the Farm concluded its ninth season of successful markets with a meaningful gift to uplift Cincinnati's aging community, donating more than $12,000 to its 2025 charitable partner, the Giving Voice Foundation (GVF), a local nonprofit that provides no-cost programs and services for older adults living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their caregivers, across the Tri-State.


Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is grateful to the Wohlgemuth Herschede Foundation for a $10,000 grant for adaptive services and equipment for people with severe vision loss. CABVI appreciates a $2,500 grant from Charles Scott Riley Foundation to help provide support groups for people with vision loss.


Now in its fifth year, Adopt-A-Family benefited 188 families, exceeding our goal of bringing joy to 150 families. Many are kinship care families, in which children are temporarily cared for by relatives or family friends with close ties to a parent facing difficult circumstances. The arrangement lets parents focus on their situation, knowing their children are safe and well cared for.



FUNDING AND RESOURCE OPPORTUNITIES

Horizon Community Foundation is pleased to announce its 2026 Community Impact Fund (CIF) grant cycle, offering a total of $115,000 in competitive grant funding to strengthen Northern Kentucky communities through innovation, partnership, and measurable progress. This year, the Foundation is encouraging nonprofit applicants to bring forth a bold idea — one capable of addressing a significant community need and demonstrating the potential for deep and lasting impact. Ingage Partners, a purpose-driven technology consulting company, and Pay It Forward Cincinnati, are excited to announce that the 2026 Social Impact Fund is now accepting applications. The 2026 Social Impact Fund is awarding a $14,000 grant and up to 100 pro bono hours from Ingage Partners. This opportunity is open to local 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that are implementing solutions to address the root causes of some of our region's greatest challenges in one of these focus areas: children's health & wellness and financial security. Apply by January 5, 2026 for consideration.


bi3, Interact for Health, and The Joe Burrow Foundation are calling on Greater Cincinnati schools serving grades 7–12 to participate in World Teen Mental Wellness Day on March 2, 2026. Students can apply for up to $1,000 in funding to plan and lead creative, student-driven activities that promote mental wellness. World Teen Mental Wellness Day raises awareness about the mental health challenges teens face and encourages open dialogue, connection, and support. Many local teens report struggles with anxiety and depression, but stigma and lack of awareness often keep them from seeking help. Learn more and apply here.

Join the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (NKY Chamber) for one of the most influential Eggs 'N Issues of the year. Eggs 'N Issues: State of Northern Kentucky, on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, 7:30am to 9:15am at Receptions Banquet and Conference Center – South. The NKY Chamber's own Tami Wilson, Vice President of Government Relations and Business Advocacy, leads a panel discussion with the Judges/Executive from the Northern Kentucky counties of Boone, Campbell, and Kenton.


Registration is now open for the 2026 Forum on Aging. Join us March 3–4 at the Sharonville Convention Center for Council on Aging’s annual Forum on Aging presented by Global Meals conference.
