Celebrating Galt’s Earth Day Poster Contest Winners
At Cal-Waste, we believe the future of our planet starts with the creativity and passion of our youth. Every year, we are proud to host our annual Earth Day Poster Contest, inviting students across Galt to share what sustainability means to them. We're thrilled to spotlight two incredible winners whose artwork is now featured on our residential trucks for the entire community to see.
| | |
🌎 Aviana – River Oaks Elementary
With bright colors and a creative Cal-Waste truck design, Aviana’s poster beautifully highlighted the importance of caring for our planet. Her artwork featured Earth, a rainbow, smiling community members, and the message “I Love Earth,” showing how recycling and environmental awareness can bring people together.
Aviana’s design reminds us that even the youngest voices can share a powerful message about protecting the world we all call home.
| | |
🌎 Evelyn – Lake Canyon Elementary
With vibrant ocean life imagery and a powerful environmental message, Evelyn’s poster highlighted the importance of protecting our oceans and reducing plastic pollution.
Her message, “Protecting the oceans is not only saving species, but guaranteeing human survival and global biodiversity,” serves as a strong reminder that caring for our oceans means caring for the future of our planet.
| | |
We had the honor of visiting each winner at their school to surprise them with the exciting news that their posters are now displayed on our Cal-Waste trucks! These moving billboards will travel through Galt neighborhoods, sharing their inspiring messages with the community.
To Aviana and Evelyn, thank you for using your voices and creativity to remind us what Earth Day is all about. Your artwork is more than just a poster; it is a reminder to us all that the future is in good hands.
| | Supporting Galt Students Through Scholarships | | |
Cal-Waste is proud to support the next generation of Galt leaders by awarding scholarships to two outstanding Galt applicants, Cody Korman and Liliana Chavez.
Both students have shown exceptional promise, dedication, and commitment to their education, and we are excited to see all they will accomplish in the future.
There was even more to celebrate as the GET Program invited Cal-Waste’s Leesa to attend their awards night in support of local students and their achievements. We are proud of these Galt High students and honored to play a small part in supporting their next chapter.
| | SCOE Resource Fair at Vernon E. Greer Elementary | | |
Cal-Waste had a great time participating in the SCOE Resource Fair at Greer Elementary! Our recycle catapult activity was a slam dunk, giving students a fun and interactive way to learn which items belong in the correct cart.
It was exciting to see students put their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the test while learning more about recycling, organics, and trash. Thank you to Greer Elementary, SCOE, and all of the participating vendors for helping make events like this possible for our community.
| | Galt Touch-A-Truck & Safety Expo | | |
Cal-Waste had a great time attending this year’s Touch-A-Truck & Safety Expo at the Galt Market on April 4th.
Our team enjoyed connecting with families, kids, and community members while sharing more about the vehicles that help keep Galt clean every day. We had one of our trucks on display, giving attendees the chance to see it up close and learn how it works.
Visitors also stopped by our booth to participate in recycling-themed games, interactive activities, and prize giveaways for all ages.
Thank you to everyone who came out to say hello, ask questions, and learn more about recycling in Galt. We always enjoy being part of events that bring the community together.
| | Cal-Waste had an Egg-cellent Time at the Eggstravaganza & Kite Day! | | Cal-Waste is proud to support this family-friendly spring tradition in Galt. | |
Cal-Waste had an egg-cellent time supporting the Galt Area Historical Society’s annual Eggstravaganza & Kite Day at McFarland Living History Ranch.
This fun-filled community event brought families together for an egg drop, pie-eating contest, craft and food vendors, kite flying, and the hunt for 15,000 Easter eggs.
Our team joined in on the fun with a recycling-themed egg toss game, where attendees could recycle their old plastic Easter eggs in exchange for fun prizes. Jokes were cracked, eggs were tossed, and an egg-squisite time was had by all.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to celebrate, learn, and enjoy a great day in the community with us.
| Galt, Let's Talk Summer Waste! | |
Hey Galt residents!
Summer is here, and we know that means more time outdoors, grilling with friends, enjoying fireworks, and getting your yards in shape. But with all the summer fun comes a lot of waste—and we want to help you sort it out properly!
Here’s a quick guide to help you handle some of the most common summertime items so we can all do our part to keep Galt clean and safe.
Fireworks
Used fireworks should never go in the recycling or organics. Once they’re completely used, soak them in water overnight, place them in a sealed plastic bag, and toss them in the trash. It’s the safest way to prevent any accidents and protect our drivers.
Drip Lines & Sprinkler Parts
Working on your yard this summer? Items like broken drip lines, hoses, and sprinkler heads are not recyclable—even if they’re plastic. These go straight into the trash to avoid damaging sorting equipment.
BBQ Waste
After the burgers and hot dogs are gone, here’s how to sort what’s left behind:
Greasy paper plates (not wax-lined)?
Answer: Compost / Green Waste
Greasy paper plates (wax-lined)?
Answer: Trash
Plastic utensils?
Answer: Trash
Red Solo cups?
Answer: Recycle (unless extremely dirty or sticky, then Trash)
Clean aluminum cans and clean foil trays?
Answer: Recycle them!
Reminder: If you’re not sure whether an item is recyclable, it is better to place it in the trash than risk contaminating your recycling bin.
When in doubt, throw it out.
Thanks for helping us keep Galt beautiful this summer! If you ever have questions about proper disposal, feel free to reach out or check out our website for sorting tips.

Warmer Temperatures + Allergy Season
= Time to Check Those Air Filters

Swapping out your air filters? Don’t forget, used air filters belong in the trash. They are not recyclable!
