A Word from the Director - Greg Gaskins
Members and subscribers to our newsletter, 2020 was a year like no other in recent memory. I know that individuals in your community stepped up and went above and beyond during the Pandemic, either as a front line worker or the clerk stocking the shelves at your local grocery or the neighbor that checked on everyone, just to make sure they were alright.
I ask you to look around you and if a person has met some or most of the criteria for Citizen of the Year, take a moment and email me their name and reason for the nomination. We are looking for individuals who:
- encouraged and exemplified the virtue of good citizenship;
- touched or enriched the lives of others, particularly those who are vulnerable or less able to help themselves;
- shown ongoing initiative, leadership and dedication;
- devoted themselves to sustained and selfless voluntary service;
- earned the respect of their peers and become a role model in their field;
- demonstrated innovation or creativity in delivering lasting results.
Take some time out of your day and please nominate someone in your community that has made a real difference in the past 12 months. Plaques will be presented at the GLW Chamber Luncheon on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Abbey Springs in Fontana. Nomination forms can be obtained by visiting the GLW Chamber website www.genevalakewest.com or contacting the Chamber at 262-275-5102. The deadline for submitting nominations is Tuesday, April 20th 2021, so follow the link below to vote.

Exploring our area
The Geneva Lake Conservancy is a gem among ecological gems. This 40-year-old organization was formed to preserve environmentally sensitive lands throughout the county and, like other conservancies in the area, has achieved great heights with the help of hundreds of volunteers and donors.
Executive director Karen Yancey spent her childhood summers at her grandparents’ cottage in Williams Bay and today she’s heading up land restoration and rehabilitation so future generations may enjoy the community just as she has over the years. “We’ve opened four new nature preserves throughout the county for hiking, paddling, fishing and cross-country skiing. We hold birding festivals, and we have a milkweed and native plant sale in the spring,” shares Karen. The group’s Heritage Oak Program is an initiative to bring back the majestic oak savannas and woodlands of Walworth County through efforts that include selling oak trees to residents and planting trees in White River County Park. As Karen points out, oak trees provide habitat for hundreds of species including birds and the native plants that grow beneath them, which is why the oak program is so important.

The Belfry Music Theatre
2021 Season Opening Announcement
As you are well aware, Covid-19 had a devastating effect and significantly challenged all parties involved in the live entertainment industry, including the Belfry Music Theatre and all of our 2020 scheduled artists.
We would like to update you regarding our current plans for the 2021 season based upon our experience gained as the only theatre in the United States to present a season in 2020, our 2020 attendee survey responses and our recent 2021 pre-opening survey.
The 2021 season starts on June 4th.
