Today, on Giving Tuesday, we wanted to share a different type of rescue story, but a story that is central to our mission of providing a safe haven to senior cats.
Sweet Pea came to June’s from a shelter in Socorro. This petite, 15-year-old girl had been surrendered by her previous owners when they couldn’t care for her because of health problems. While at the shelter, Sweet Pea had experienced a respiratory infection and GI problems, and no one was interested in adopting her.
When she arrived, she almost immediately took to our Executive Director, Janet. Sweet Pea loved sitting in Janet’s office, often perching on the desk right next to Janet while she worked.
A few days after Sweet Pea joined us, we learned that she had heart failure and only had a short time left with us. She passed peacefully one week after she came to June’s.
Being with our seniors during their final days is at the heart of what we do. It’s one of the most difficult—and most meaningful—parts of our mission. While losing a cat never gets easier, it’s an emotional burden we gladly take on. We take comfort in knowing that Sweet Pea had found her place—right on Janet’s desk—and wasn’t in a cage alone when she left this world. Instead, she was surrounded by love after spending her final days with comfort and love.
June’s is able to provide care and comfort for senior cats like Sweet Pea because of the generous support of donors like you. This giving Tuesday, your gift will ensure senior cats like Sweet Pea have a warm bed and the comfort and love they deserve during their golden years.
Donors like you are supporting us this week. Will you make a gift to help a senior cat find warmth, safety, and a place to belong during their later years?
