Dear friend,

Many of your neighbors across Western North Carolina don’t have access to mental health services. Counseling and therapy simply aren’t available in their community.

According to the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, our state ranks last in the nation for access to behavioral health care. Of the 100 counties in North Carolina, 94 are designated professional mental health shortage areas.

This is unacceptable. We believe everyone deserves access to mental health services. Where you live shouldn't impact your access to care.

That’s why All Souls Counseling Center is committed to doubling down on our mission to expand access to our services across rural WNC. Here are just a few of the ways we’ve done that over the last several months:

  • Embedding a therapist at partner locations in Bat Cave and Burnsville – with plans under development for a presence in Swannanoa

  • Adding a Spanish-speaking therapist

  • Continuing our post-Helene recovery outreach initiatives in 2026 and 2027, building upon successful collaborations to date in Saluda, Fairview, Weaverville, Barnardsville, Hot Springs, Spruce Pine, and Marshall

  • Developing a volunteer engagement program to grow our mental health awareness and education

And yet, we’re just scratching the surface. The demand for services isn’t letting up. Calls to our Center for help are still rising, and we do our best to move people off the waiting list as quickly as possible. We can do more.

With your help, we will continue responding to the critical needs of WNC. Gifts like yours empower us to increase our capacity, hire more therapists, add group sessions, and provide vital mental health therapy to couples and individuals.

If you believe everyone deserves access to mental health services, giving to All Souls Counseling Center is impactful. Together, we will be the change we all want to see in Western North Carolina.

With warm regards,

The All Souls Counseling spring reception for our Green Ribbon Society illustrated the power of personal stories. Kevin Westmoreland, co-owner/CFO of local restaurants Chestnut and The Corner Kitchen (pictured speaking at left), shared a poignant account of his family’s experience with a tragic loss and the counseling that helped them all move forward.

All Souls recognizes our Green Ribbon-level supporters, those who contribute $1,200 a year to our mission, with special gatherings and meaningful mental health educational programs twice annually.

When this leadership circle was launched just a couple of years ago, $1,200 covered the cost of a contract clinician to partner with a client on their care plan for our usual length of service (six months). While costs have risen, we are pleased to hold the Green Ribbon giving level steady for 2026. By giving one time at $1,200, or by becoming a sustaining supporter with a $100 per month pledge, you can be a part of this dynamic, philanthropic crew of mental health champions.
