Who HomeAid Helps
The Septebmer 15 HomeAid Care Day provided a savings of over $9,500 for Making A Way Housing (MAWH). The funds saved can be used to directly help people who come to MAWH in search of a safe place to make a new start, like Paul.
Paul began using drugs and alcohol at age 14. His drug use became a daily habit causing him to lose his job working at a major airline. He struggled to juggle working, being a responsible adult to his two children, and using drugs. After two failed marriages and years of instability, he lived on the streets of Atlanta for 25 years. During that time, he was arrested several times and sought treatment when he hit rock bottom, living under a bridge. After getting sober with help from the Salvation Army, Paul moved to Making A Way Housing. Once he completed the program at MAWH, he was hired as overnight staff. He then began to pursue certification to become a substance abuse counselor and attend college. “I am so grateful to Making A Way Housing for giving me an opportunity to pursue my dream. I know now that anything is possible,” said Paul.
