Ted & Clare Ziemer Society Toy Collection
Brings Smiles to Children's Faces this Holiday Season
Thank you to all that contributed to the Ted & Clare Ziemer Society Toy Collection! Your support will mean so much to children who are in the hospital at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital Evansville this holiday season and throughout 2021. The smiles on their faces as they receive toys during their care will truly be priceless - THANK YOU!

Four year old Andrew Swiderski knows firsthand the importance of what a toy means to a child in the hospital. Last year, while visiting his grandparents between Christmas and New Year's, Andrew's younger sister, Caroline, became ill. She ended up at the Peyton Manning Pediatric ER at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, where she was admitted to the pediatric floor overnight. Andrew was understandably upset that his sister was not feeling well and had to stay at the hospital. Caroline's nurse made sure that she received a toy from the toy closet shortly after arriving in her room, so she had something to play with if she felt up to it and to lift her spirits. 

Andrew's mother explains, "We had taken a picture of Caroline smiling with the toy and showed it to Andrew to let him know that she was doing okay. Several weeks later after returning home, Andrew had mentioned that he wanted to, at Christmas, bring some new toys to Caroline's hospital in Evansville. He explained that the toy Caroline received made her happy, so he thought by bringing in toys for other kids that might make them happy too while they are at the hospital. He has been reminding us all year that he would like to do this."
Sarah Quinette, Certified Child Life Specialist at Petyon Manning Children's Hospital Evansville, had this to say about the toys that were donated, "The Ziemer Society Toy Drive brings joy and makes a huge positive impact on children and families spending their time in the hospital, especially during the holiday season! Children learn and express themselves through play. Play can be therapeutic by giving children the opportunity to explore, express, and process their healthcare experience in a safe, non-threatening way. The toys and activities donated by the Ziemer Society members and supporters helps our pediatric patients adapt to a new and unfamiliar environment.Thank you, Ziemer Society! You truly have made a difference and will bring many smiles to our youngest patients."

Women's Physical Therapy at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville: Judith's Story
"I first met Dr. Ranard a couple of years ago on a recommendation of a friend. I was so impressed with the immediate connection to her. She and her staff treated me with such kindness and respect that there was no doubt in my mind that I would be in good hands under her care, and in the past years I've been so glad that I made that choice. When I had a problem that would require surgery, she referred me to a physical therapist. Out of the group, I chose Maggie Dye. Again, it was a wonderful choice and in working with her I was able to have the successful surgery under Dr. Ranard's skillful hands.The whole experience has been really good for me.

I would highly recommend not only Maggie Dye and her staff, Dr. Tara Ranard and her nurse, Marianne, but Ascension St. Vincent Evansville hospital, nurses and staff as well. I hope they will continue to take care of me in the years to come."

Fundraiser Brings Meals to our Healthcare Heroes
The Foundation would like to thank all those who supported Foundation Development Specialist, Lori Lofton's fundraiser to bring meals to our front-line healthcare workers. Through this fundraiser, $7600 was raised in just a few days. Over 200 meals were recently distributed from Just Rennie's to front-line staff in our Emergency Department and COVID Units, with three additional dates planned for meal distribution.

“Zooming” into 2021 with our Paw-some
Angels on a Leash Pet Visitation Dogs!
Thank you to our Volunteer Services' Department for once again putting together a wonderful Angels on a Leash Pet Visitation calendar. Due to the current circumstances, the calendar features each dog on a Zoom call virtually connecting.

The Foundation was happy to have a part in supporting the project again this year for our community and associates. Copies will be available starting next week in our inpatient and outpatient locations.

Did you know? Hospital patients can still have pet therapy through our On-Demand TV’s. Pre-recorded Pet Therapy sessions are available to assist our inpatients in their healing process.
