Santa Paula Unified School District (a CC LLC client) for being awarded the CalRecycle Fiscal Year 2017-18 Tire-Derived Product (TDP) Grant in the amount of $126,894.
The district plans to install rubber mulch for both recreational and landscaping purposes at three public locations throughout the City.
This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of the Santa Paula Unified School District's leadership to promote the quality of life for its students.

California Consulting is pleased to welcome Katherine Johnson as our new Project Manager.
Katherine brings extensive experience in nonprofit management, program design, evaluation, grant writing and strategic planning. She has 25 years of working in a variety of settings including large multi-national corporations, governmental, philanthropy, healthcare, academic and small start-up organizations in the USA and abroad.
Katherine is also a certified executive coach and is committed to supporting effective leadership and being an agent of change. She has a masters degree from New York University in public policy and several years of post graduate work in program evaluation.
She is passionate about supporting those who work to strengthen our communities.

Client Spotlight: Town of Discovery Bay
California Consulting is pleased to spotlight the Town of Discovery Bay. Discovery Bay was established in the early 1970s as a mostly weekend and summer resort community. Today, Discovery Bay has evolved into a thriving year-round home for over 14,000 residents who enjoy small-town living against the backdrop of the Delta waterways.
Boasting a full-service deep water yacht harbor with a fully stocked chandlery and marina shops, two shopping centers, three public schools and one private school, Discovery Bay provides a variety of commercial and retail outlets and dining opportunities throughout town.
Discovery Bay is an unincorporated community of Contra Costa County and is officially known as the Town of Discovery Bay. The Town was officially formed as a California Community Services District (CSD) in 1998. The Town provides municipal water treatment and distribution as well as wastewater collection, collection and treatment. The District also provides parks and landscaping and recreation services.

State Water Resources Control Board: Water Recycling Funding Program (WRFP)
Deadline: Accepting applications via FAAST system on a continuous basis.
Amount: $75,000 (for Planning Grants); $15-$20 Million (for Construction Grants)
Match: 50% (for Planning Grants); 35% (for Construction Grants)
Financing: For Construction applications Interest at 1/2 General Obligation Bond Rate;
30 year term; Allowance following the CWSRF Policy
Eligibility: local public agencies
The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) provides funding for the planning, design, and construction of water recycling projects that offset or augment state fresh water supplies. There are two programs within this fund:
- Planning Grants: The purpose of the planning grant is to assist agencies or regions with completing feasibility studies for water recycling projects using treated municipal wastewater and/or treated groundwater from sources contaminated by human activities. Only local public agencies are eligible to apply for planning grants.
- Construction Grants: The Water Recycling Funding Program provides grants and financing to eligible applicants for the construction of water recycling facilities. Construction projects may be funded with grants and low interest financing from a state bond, a CWSRF financing agreement, or combinations of funding sources. Eligible applicants are local public agencies, nonprofit organizations, public utilities, state & federal recognized Indian tribes, and mutual water companies.
Caltrans: Active Transportation Program (ATP) Grant Statewide Cycle 4
Release: TBD (likely early 2018)
Deadline: TBD (likely mid 2018)
Amount (based on previous cycle): Minimum funding request is $250,000 (Non-infrastructure projects, Safe Routes to Schools projects, Recreational Trails projects, and Planning projects are exempt from this and may apply for smaller amounts).
Match: None required
Eligibility: cities, counties, county transportation commissions, regional transportation planning agencies, MPOs, school districts, and transit districts
The Active Transportation Program was created to encourage increased use of active modes of transportation, such as biking and walking. Funding from the Active Transportation Program may be used to fund the development of community wide bike, pedestrian, safe routes to schools, or active transportation plans in predominantly disadvantaged communities. The goals of the Active Transportation Program are to:
- Increase the proportion of trips accomplished by biking and walking.
- Increase the safety and mobility of non-motorized users.
- Advance the active transportation efforts of regional agencies to achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals
- Enhance public health, including reduction of childhood obesity using programs including, but not limited to, projects eligible for Safe Routes to School Program funding.
- Ensure that disadvantaged communities fully share in the benefits of the program.
- Provide a broad spectrum of projects to benefit many types of active transportation users.
Educational Opportunities:
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grants
Deadline: Quarterly (December 1, 2016; March 2, 2017; June 2, 2017; September 7, 2017; December 1, 2017)
Amount: $15,000 - $25,000
Match: None
Eligibility: Public Safety Organizations, including fire departments, police departments, military entities, schools, registered non-profits, etc. in communities served by a Firehouse Subs restaurant.
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The foundation will fund projects in the following areas: Life-saving equipment, prevention education, scholarships and continued education, disaster relief and military support
US Department of Education: Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) Program
Deadline: Continuous
Amount: Immediate Services grant: Up to $50,000 for a period of six months; Extended Services grants: Up to $250,000 for 18 months
Match: None required
Eligibility: Local education agencies (LEAs) and institutions of higher education (IHEs)
This program funds short-term and long-term education
related services for local educational agencies
(LEAs) and institutions of higher education (IHEs) to
help them recover from a violent or traumatic event in
which the learning environment has been disrupted LEAs
and IHEs may apply
for two types of assistance
under Project SERV: Immediate Services grants and
Extended Services grants. Immediate Services grants
are intended to provide short-term support shortly after
a traumatic event. Immediate Services grants are
intended to provide a limited amount of funds to meet
acute needs and restore the learning environment.
Extended Services grants are intended to address the
long-term recovery efforts that may be needed following
a traumatic event. Extended Services applications are
considered unsolicited grant applications and undergo a rigorous internal review by the Office of Safe and Healthy Students and the Office of the General Counsel.
After review by staff members, the application is peer
reviewed by an outside panel before being considered
for funding.

7/31/17- California Consulting Senior Director, Holly Bachman, and Project Manager, Karen Simpson, presented a grants update to the City of Lynwood City Council at the July 31st City Council Meeting.
