Best Point: Creating Lasting Results
|
|
Best Point Education & Behavioral Health (Best Point) is renovating and expanding the Sheakley Center on their Madisonville main campus. Named after board member Rhonda Sheakley and her husband, Larry, both longtime supporters of Best Point, the Sheakley Center will be the future home of their Day Treatment Program. The updated facility will help Best Point expand their care and overall mission of “Creating lasting results that strengthen families and our community by guiding individuals – from infancy to independence – through comprehensive education, behavioral, and health services.”
Originally, the 4,600 SF Sheakley Center was a 4-room residential treatment cottage. Once renovated, the new 7,700 SF Day Treatment Center will add, make better use of, and modernize the space, providing a more therapeutic environment. Along with the addition of 7 new treatment rooms, totaling 11, there will also be a private comfort space where kids can go to calm if they are overstimulated and a small conference room for family meetings or school administration meetings. The Sheakley Center is slated for reopening this summer in preparation for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.
Expanding Care for our Community
There are no questions that there is a mental health crisis among our youth. The American Psychological Association, NPR and The New York Times have all acknowledged that the growing public health threat for our youth is the soaring rates of mental health disorders. Intensified by the Covid pandemic, mental health disorders are spanning racial and ethnic groups, urban and rural areas, and the socioeconomic divide.
In our community, there is a significant need for youth mental health treatment. Best Point recognizes that mental health services need to continue to grow, and we want to provide that care. Currently Best Point has over 50 kids who need access to day treatment services but are unable to start due to limited space. We want to be able to serve any child and family who comes to us for help. The completion of Sheakley Center will almost double the total capacity for day treatment services, providing space to offer 1:1 support for children with the highest level of need.
Best Point is excited for the reopening of the Sheakley Center and the opportunity to better serve the mental health needs of children in the Greater Cincinnati community, supporting their healthy development and functioning by meeting their social, emotional, and developmental needs.

Donations decline for the first time since 2012 Dating back to 2012, donor dollars had been rising — until now. Through the third quarter of 2022, giving was up 4.7%, but at year-end, there was a 1.7% decline. The year-end reduction in dollars flowing to nonprofits over the full calendar year should be a surprise since the end of the year is usually the most lucrative time for nonprofits.
Rest and recharge: creative solutions to tackling nonprofit burnout Burnout is a risk in any profession, but nonprofit leaders are especially prone to hitting a wall. Nonprofit executives tend to do the work they do because they are passionate about making a better world and relentless in pursuing their mission – exactly the kind of people who don’t take breaks easily.
