Coalition Academy 2022
PreventionFIRST! will host a regional behavioral health prevention conference in September that is open to a variety of community sectors wanting to learn more about substance use prevention, mental wellness and suicide prevention for youth. PF! is a non-profit organization serving the Tristate since 1996. PF!’s mission is to implement best practice strategies to reduce the risk of behavioral health disorders.

The conference, Coalition Academy 2022, will be held on Tuesday, September 13 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in-person at Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, OH. Teachers, nurses, parents/caregivers, public health professionals, social workers, counselors, law enforcement and other community-based sectors are welcome to attend.

The keynote address, “Building Equity in Prevention,” will be given by Dr. Mary Roary, Director of the Office of Behavioral Health Equity at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Other presentations that will be given throughout the day include basic communications strategies for organizations, what is adultism/tokenism, real-life resiliency skills, sports betting and problem gambling prevention, trauma-informed care and prevention, and engaging youth in prevention.

CEUs for prevention, social work, public health, and nursing will be applied for. Cost is $60 which includes a light breakfast and full lunch. Vendors from local behavioral health agencies will also be on hand at the conference. Funding for this annual behavioral health prevention conference comes from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Services.

The Health Collaborative, Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, Interact for Health, and partner, Cohear, announced the release of the Region's first Collaborative Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The CHIP is an action plan developed for southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana that provides an actionable roadmap of evidence-based, cross sector strategies to address the top health needs and priorities as identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment released in January. Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is grateful for a $25,000 grant from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation for adaptive equipment for CABVI’s new computer training lab.

Cincinnati Animal CARE, the Hamilton County animal shelter, is growing! The Cincinnati Animal CARE Pet Adoption Center is opening at 3262 Highland Avenue in Columbia Township - near Norwood and Pleasant Ridge - specifically to help foster pets get adopted faster. While this center is not a second animal shelter, it will function as a boutique space for potential adopters to meet animals living in the hundreds of foster homes connected to the shelter. 

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has awarded Easterseals Redwood a $25,000 Community Inclusion Project grant to repair, pave and seal its parking lots at the Fort Mitchell location. The organization is grateful for this grant and for the Foundation’s long history of support.

Cincinnati Associated for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CABVI) is inviting members of our community who are blind or visually impaired to join them for an Orientation and Mobility Services Coffee Talk on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 10:00am-11:30am. This is a free event for anyone affected by severe vision loss. Please join CABVI's Orientation and Mobility specialist to learn about echolocation -a way to locate things in our environment using your sense of hearing and reflected sound. Health Care Access Now (HCAN) has been awarded a grant of $30,000 from the Josephine S. Russell Family Charitable Trust of the PNC Charitable Trusts to expand its Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification Program to support maternal and child wellness in racial and ethnic minority populations. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for a new CHW workforce from the Asian, Latinx, Indigenous, and other underrepresented communities.



Nonprofit Funding and Resource Opportunities
Kentucky Nonprofit Network has created a checklist to give qualifying nonprofit organizations a head-start in preparing to complete the online application for the $75 million Nonprofit Assistance Fund included in the 2022 state budget. The online application portal opens at 9:00am ET on Monday, August 1, 2022. The portal closes on Saturday, October 1, 2022, though it is strongly recommended that interested organizations apply as soon as possible. Please refer to the Nonprofit Assistance Fund website for Program Guidelines for definitions of “qualifying nonprofit organization,” geographic requirements, “federal aid,” and other information. This and other sample documents are available on this site. Should you still need assistance, questions may be emailed to kynonprofitfund.help@ky.gov.

GiveCamp is a nationwide effort that brings together a community of volunteers to donate their time and talents to build the technical resources and capacity of local non-profit organizations. In its first nine years, Southwest Ohio GiveCamp has had over 750 volunteers who contributed over 16,000 hours on 123 non-profit projects. The projects have ranged from website rebuilds to iPhone and Android applications. The 2022 Southwest Ohio GiveCamp is now accepting non-profit applications. The initial application is a simple form found on their website

Endow Kentucky Tax Credit available on July 1. Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) has helped donors receive $1.4 million in Kentucky income tax credits for their charitable gifts totaling $7 million to 28 GCF endowments since 2011. The Endow Kentucky Tax Credit presents a highly tax-advantaged opportunity for gifts made by Kentucky taxpayers (individuals and businesses) to endowments held at GCF that benefit Kentucky nonprofits. Aviatra Accelerators, a non-profit accelerator devoted to empowering women-owned startups and small businesses, has opened applications for its next Launch® program, a 10-week, 30-hour program designed specifically for newer, revenue-positive businesses – those in business for between 1 and 3 years who are seeking to take their business to the next level. At the end of the 10-week program, female entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to compete for funding in Aviatra's Flight-Night pitch competition, a combination in-person and virtual event. Find more information about Launch® here or apply at: Aviatra Launch Application.

Make a Difference
The Cincinnati Animal CARE Pet Adoption Center is opening at 3262 Highland Avenue in Columbia Township - near Norwood and Pleasant Ridge - specifically to help foster pets get adopted faster. The Pet Adoption Center will be volunteer run, so more volunteers will be needed. The more volunteers, the more hours the center will be open. Join Ohio River Foundation, MadTree Brewing, Cincinnati Parks, and Alms Park Allies to remove harmful invasive plants Tuesday, August 23 from 2p-5p. We'll be using hand saws and loppers to cut and remove invasive plants, trees, and/or vines throughout the park. Register here.
