S. Pitsineli, "Greek Ocean Liners & American Immigration"
The causes of Greek emigration to the US, as well as the journey and conditions faced upon arrival, are common topics of discussion. However, the history of the ships themselves is rarely discussed, despite being integrally intertwined with the history of the immigrants.

This article aims to shed more light on the history of Greek ocean liners, the ships that carried many of our ancestors to what was seen as the “Promised Land.”

C. Kostakos Petranek: Interview with Tom Frangoulis - "It Started with a Forgotten Name"
"How does a village history project evolve? In Egklouvi, Lefkada, it began with the name, “Polito.” When neither Tom Frangoulis nor his brothers could remember their grandmother’s given name, Tom embarked on a quest. He knew there had to be a record somewhere."

Tom Frangoulis is member of the Village History Projects Initiative by Greek Ancestry! Learn more about the VHPI here.
G. Kalkanis, "Light-Water-Telephone in Xirokampi, Part Two"
The construction of a complete network of drinking, running water with pipes in the village was attempted and completed in the 1960s or even the early years of the 1970s. [...] The consequences of the construction of the water supply network were, of course, crucial for the quality of life of the inhabitants, but they also had secondary, controversial results."

Greek Adoption Files Digitized
On August 29th 2022, Greek Ancestry and the International Social Service (ISS) - Hellenic Branch inaugurated their collaboration to digitize the invaluable archival collection of the ISS!

Covering the years from the 1950s up to 1985, our project aims at preserving the history of Greek children adopted by families abroad. In the adoption files we are discovering amazing stories and incredible documents: letters written before mothers put their children up for adoption, letters of the adoptive families, photos and drawings of children, newspaper articles etc.

On Dec 3rd, 2022, ISS - Hellenic Branch and Greek Ancestry hosted a crowdfunding webinar. Our guest speakers Mary Cardaras, Linda Carol Trotter (Eftychia), Gonda van Steen and Katerina Bakogianni talked about the significance of the preservation of ISS' historical archive!
Over 1400 cases have already been digitized! Click on the button below and help the ISS preserve its archive! Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
