Celebrating OXI Day (Oct. 28th 1940)
G. Kontos, "Reconnecting With a Heroic Legacy"
As fate would have it, the young man’s journey had begun with a Facebook post shared by his mother. The post led him to our Greek Ancestry website, where he stumbled upon the letters written by his grandfather during World War II. Alex shared with us that his father had passed away when he was just seven years old, leaving him with limited knowledge of his own family history. The letters we had published marked his first contact with his Greek heroic legacy. Driven by philotimo and our true commitment to family history, we of course offered to provide Alex with translations of all of his grandfather’s letters at no cost.

S. Pitsineli, "Greek Gen Z "Remembers" WWII"
Along with all those who pass away, the primary memory of the war is also lost. It is replaced by a secondary, indirect personal and collective memory, and in this article, there is an initial attempt to study that with an emphasis on the so-called Gen Z, the young people who were born from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.

Greek Adoption Files Digitized
On August 29th 2022, Greek Ancestry and the International Social Service (ISS) - Hellenic Branch inaugurated their collaboration to digitize the invaluable archival collection of the ISS!

Covering the years from the 1950s up to 1985, our project aims at preserving the history of Greek children adopted by families abroad. In the adoption files we are discovering amazing stories and incredible documents: letters written before mothers put their children up for adoption, letters of the adoptive families, photos and drawings of children, newspaper articles etc.

On Dec 3rd, 2022, ISS - Hellenic Branch and Greek Ancestry hosted a crowdfunding webinar. Our guest speakers Mary Cardaras, Linda Carol Trotter (Eftychia), Gonda van Steen and Katerina Bakogianni talked about the significance of the preservation of ISS' historical archive!
Over 1400 cases have already been digitized! Click on the button below and help the ISS preserve its archive! Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
