Remember hearing about Gentle Harvest opening in the former Texas Steakhouse? The farm-to-table fast food concept was originally slated to open this Fall; but due to a delayed opening of their flagship Marshall location, the opening of the Winchester store has been moved back to early Spring - hopefully March, says company officials. A few weeks ago, we mentioned a new wine bar opening in Old Town Winchester, The Fat Cork. Unfortunately, those plans have been pushed back indefinitely, according to a December 14th Facebook post

In more uplifting restaurant news, Joe's Steakhouse has a renewed commitment to quality and service - they recently rolled out a new menu and have hired a new general manager and chef. Read all about it

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of Winchester's government - the 12th Annual Insight Citizen's Academy begins in January. The program runs from January 5th - April 20th, and features insights into the police department and 9-1-1, economic development and tourism, public utilities, fire and rescue, Winchester Public Schools and more. Now that the holidays are about over, thoughts turn from cookies and cakes to calorie counting and working out. Here's one way to make that eating healthier goal happen: Handley Library will be hosting healthy cooking classes in January and February. Partnering with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, the library is presenting a four part series of Lunch and Learn cooking workshops which feature quick, healthy, and inexpensive tips for the cook on the go who wants healthy choices. The free workshops cover five-ingredient meals, crockpot meals, Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and soups. Workshops require advanced registration. Click here for details.
