Home-Life Management Center: Housing That Heals
"What happens here is what the system ought to be." Those were the words of Delaware State Housing Authority Director Matthew J. Heckles while touring YWCA Delaware’s Home-Life Management Center.
Since 1989, Home-Life has provided emergency and transitional housing for families in crisis—paired with the wraparound care needed to rebuild stability and independence. Families are welcomed with fresh linens, toiletries, and support from dedicated case managers who guide them toward long-term housing success.
Along with private rooms and apartments, Home-Life offers a food pantry, computer lab, family spaces, and a healing space from our Sexual Assault Response Center (SARC). Workshops in financial literacy, health, parenting, and job readiness strengthen the path forward.
In 2024 alone, Home-Life supported 216 families, helped 24 move into permanent housing, and ensured 80% gained the skills to maintain housing on their own.
We thank Senator Eric Buckson (member of the Health & Social Services and Housing & Land Use Committees), Senator Russ Huxtable (head of Delaware’s Housing Committee), Rep. Larry Lambert (House District 7), Senator Elizabeth Lockman (Chair of the Housing and Land Use Committee, representing the Third Senate District), Senator Spiros Mantzavinos (Seventh Senate District), Rep. Cyndie Romer (25th District), and Delaware State Housing Authority Director Matthew J. Heckles, for touring our facility.
We're thankful for our legislators witnessing firsthand how Home-Life works and for hearing about our concerns about proposed federal budget cuts that threaten to cut essential services at our Home-Life Management Center and Sexual Assault Response Center (SARC).
