HART HOUSE THEATRE UPDATE

Issue 12, 2017/2018 Season | October 17, 2017
Creative Spelling....
Our greatest strength is the talent of the artists who spend their time creating in our theatre. Today we'd like to salute some of the team that is working diligently on our upcoming musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

We welcome Director Cory Doran back to Hart House after his incredible work directing Boeing Boeing and The Importance of Being Earnest in past seasons. In addition to Cory's directorial work, he is an award-winning actor who can be heard regularly on your radio and television. He does the voices for successful cartoon shows such as Wild Kratts, Cat in the Hat, Freaktown, The 3 Amigonauts, Little Charmers, Luna Petunia, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, as well as many many more.

After a hugely successful run with our production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Giustin MacLean returns to Music Direct our second show of the season. Originally from Nova Scotia, Giustin now lives in Toronto and works as a Music Director, Conductor, Pianist, Vocal Coach and Keyboard Programmer. He is on staff as a pianist at Sheridan College and has been a Guest Artist at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.

Making her Hart house Theatre debut is Choreographer Sabrina Hooper. Sabrina grew up in the dance community of northern Ontario and made the move to Toronto over a decade ago. She is a two-time THEA nominee with the ACT-CO Festival for Best Choreography in a Musical.

Be sure to visit our site for more about the production talent working on the show. In particular, the award-winning designers: Brandon Kleiman, Kathleen Black and André du Toit.

The Ellen Ross Stuart Opening Doors Awards
To celebrate the too short life of Ellen Ross Stuart (Nel), a new multi-year award has been created to “Open Doors” by empowering young writers to actively engage in their craft in association with three supportive theatres.

The awards are for emerging writers 21-30 with some production credits who have graduated from post-secondary training or outgrown other programs that nurture young artists.

"Through her involvement at Hart House Theatre, Nel played a vital role in many artistic successes and facilitated opportunities for many young and emerging artists.  This award in many ways continues Nel’s legacy as it focuses on engaging and empowering young artists – specifically young theatre writers."
Doug Floyd, General Manager and Producer, Hart House Theatre

This opportunity has two phases which provide mentorship and training for young writers. The first deadline for applications is December 15, 2017.
