Hospice of North Idaho Patients Receive Support

Coeur d’Alene - Hospice of North Idaho’s 34th Annual Hospice Wine Taste raised a record amount of support for patients in Kootenai, Shoshone and Benewah counties. The local nonprofit recently hosted the annual fundraiser at their new Coeur d’Alene campus.
 
“Hosting the event in our new Community Building felt magical. It enriched the experience and focused the evening on our mission,” reflects Kim Ransier, executive director of Hospice of North Idaho.

Contributions to the 34 th annual Wine Taste raised over $172,000 for hospice care. Hospice’s clinical team attributed its success to the community’s values. “Our community knows that we’re expanding the Schneidmiller House, and I think they wanted to help us ensure that we can continue to keep up with the needs of our community.” remarked Cindy Reed, Director of the Schneidmiller House.

Guests raised a record $51,000 in the paddle raise portion of the event to furnish the seven-room expansion of the Schneidmiller House. The Schneidmiller House is the only 24-hour hospice in-patient unit in Idaho.

Event proceeds also benefit patients living in their homes and skilled nursing facilities throughout Kootenai, Shoshone and Benewah Counties. Support raised at Wine Taste each year provides medical supplies, medications, equipment, family grief support and more.

Kootenai Health partnered with Hospice of North Idaho as the presenting sponsor of the 34th Annual Wine Taste. External Communications Director Kim Anderson offered, “Kootenai Health is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 2019 Wine Taste. A shared commitment to our patients and community has been the foundation of Kootenai Health relationships with Hospice of North Idaho since the beginning.”

Through this support, Hospice of North Idaho continues to provide expert care, regardless of a person’s financial circumstances.

HISTORY OF HAYDEN THROUGH THE LENS
OF THE CAMERA 
 

Hayden Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to view a new exhibit of old photographs of the city as it used to be. Photographs taken as early as 1920 are on view in the lobby of Hayden City Hall, 8930 N. Government Way. Old family pictures as well as shots of the original barns, schools, log cabins, and homes of the founders of Hayden can be seen here.  
 
Disbursed among the photographs are many old implements that would have been used during those early days: noodle cutters, sugar tongs, syrup pitchers, a stereoscope, a washboard, and a candle snuffer. Another arrangement contains early writing tools such as turkey feather pens, fountain pens, a mother-of-pearl calling card case, and a child's writing slate.
 
Tools and small equipment from early 20th century lumber mills of the Northwest accessorize other photo displays: a mill steam whistle, a hand-crank sharpening wheel, fire hose nozzles, a variety of oil valves, and miscellaneous hand tools. 
 
Visiting hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
Research Resource: travel economic impacts
At the Idaho Conference on Recreation and Tourism in October, Dean Runyan Associates presented summary statistics from their 2017 research project . Dean Runyan Associates' interactive website gives users access to Idaho travel economic impact data which can be selected by county, travel region, legislative district or statewide. The reporting provides statistics on direct travel spending, employment, earnings and tax receipts.
