The event, held at Elk Point Estates in Coeur d'Alene, ID overlooks beautiful lake Coeur d'Alene and the iconic "floating green." The event features a catered dinner, an open craft beer garden, open wine bar, live music, live auction and silent auction.

Night Under the Stars is an annual fundraiser for the Inland Northwest SIDS Foundation, a local 501(c)3 who's mission is to raise awareness about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death), educate parents, grandparents, caregivers and medical professionals about the importance of Safe Infant Sleep, and support those who have suffered a pregnancy, infant or child loss.

This years features a catered dinner from Drummin' Up BBQ, an open craft beer garden with beer provided by local craft brewer Bombastic Brewing, an open wine bar, live music by local artists, live auction, silent auction and many more fun activities.

The limited seating of the venue creates and intimate atmosphere and makes for a wonderful evening. Unfortunately the limited seating also means this event sells out every year, quickly.

Teens! Flex that Writing Muscle!
Shann Ray

The Community Library Network at Post Falls Library  is offering two writing workshops for teens in July. Unleash the Poet Within, a three-session poetry workshop begins Tuesday, July 10, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., and runs through the next two Tuesdays. Maya Jewell Zeller, poet and professor, Central Washington University, will start the course by helping aspiring poets generate ideas. "An Adventurer"

In this on-going series, the Hayden Historic Preservation Commission continues its reporting on one of our most famous Haydenites, Matthew Hayden himself.

Hayden was born in Ireland and came to America around 1851, having booked passage on the ship, UNIVERSE. In 1852, this illiterate boy enlisted for a five-year term in the U.S. Army. He was mustered out in June of 1857 on the Little Blue River in Central Kansas. Working ever westward, he luckily missed the coming conflict between the North and the South, which began in 1861.

Matt married Marta (Mary) Lott around 1860. She passed away when their only son was a young man. Matt later married Elizabeth Whalen Powers by whom he had two daughters.
We know that in 1878, Matt had purchased land next to the lake that he would later name after himself. He paid $545.53 for those 209 acres, putting in the first orchard in our area. It consisted of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. Operating this farm until 1880, he surrendered to his wanderlust and headed for the Cataldo area where he homesteaded 157 acres near the old Cataldo Mission.
