Your Hidden Life
Father Casey
Merry Christmas, everyone. There are a few days left, so pray for grace to hold onto the holiness of this season just a bit longer! There are presents still to be enjoyed if we can resist the temptation to hurry on to the next thing.
This weekend we leave the manger behind and travel ahead in time as though accompanied by one of Dickens’ ghosts. Our gospel will feature the one and only story that takes place between Jesus’ infancy and the start of his public ministry nearly 30 years later. It’s about the time the Holy Family journeyed to Jerusalem for Passover and tween Jesus got left behind. It’s equal parts poignant and funny – Melody says it’s Jesus’ most “human” moment, as what is more human than adolescence? – and a worthy story for us to consider in this season of Incarnation.
But imagine if someone wrote the tale of your life but told only one story between your birth and age 30. That would seem to leave out quite a bit, wouldn’t it? When I think about who I am today, I can point to all sorts of things that happened when I was growing up, about successes and mistakes, adventures and regrets. I can point to dozens of people and hundreds of events that contributed to who I am. But about all those years, Luke says only this: ...

| The Christmas Season Draws to a Close | | |
The Twelve Days of Christmas include two Sundays this year, providing more time to sing and pray with hope and joy. We will welcome back the "Wise Guys" on their way to offer their gifts to the Holy Family at Epiphany. They will make their annual visitation between the 9:00am and 11:15am services with a festive breakfast in Roper Hall.
Second Sunday of Christmas
- Saturday at The Table | Jan 3 | 5:30pm
- Sunday Morning Holy Eucharist | Jan 4 | 9:00am & 11:15am
- Visitation & Breakfast with The Wise Guys | Jan 4 | 10:15am
The celebration of the Incarnation concludes with a final festival Eucharist. Christ came not only for one people or nation, but to be the Light of all people. The service concludes with the traditional Burning of the Greens beneath the Belltower. Childcare will be available and incense will be used.
Feast of the Epiphany

New Harpsichord Dedication
At the 11:15am service on Sunday, January 11, we will dedicate our new harpsichord which was given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of J.J. Rodriguez by his wife, Susie Higgins-Rodriguez. This single-manual instrument was built by the William Dowd shop in 1980 and is in the French style with two sets of strings. Dowd was the chief pioneer of the historically-based harpsichord movement, and this is his 479th instrument. Kristin Van Cleve, violinist, and Gayane Manasjan Fullford, cellist, will join Joel Martinson in playing baroque music at both the 9:00am and 11:15am services.
