Camps in Mexico Making a Difference
On Oct. 25, Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco, Mexico as a Category 5 hurricane, causing catastrophic damage to the region. With wind speeds increasing by 115 mph within 24 hours, the storm rapidly intensified, giving over a million people in and around the city very little time to prepare. Reports from the area show downed trees, severe flooding, mudslides, and catastrophic damage to structures, including hotels and high-rise buildings. The storm also knocked out power and internet communications across the region, with over 10,000 utility poles destroyed, and multiple transmission lines and electrical substations heavily damaged.
