'Serving our members and informing our community'
For students with dyslexia ACCOMMODATIONS provide equal access to a full school experience.
To mark Dyslexia Awareness month, IDA - Oregon Branch has developed a flyer to help organize and communicate accommodations for students with dyslexia. It allows students to discretely inform teachers, substitute teachers and others about the accommodations they need in a convenient, one page document.

We are continually updating our website with information for educators, parents, and learners at  or.dyslexiaida.org , so visit us often!

Decoding Dyslexia - Oregon is hosting a Light It Up Red celebration at Oaks Park in Portland this year. Todd 'Hammer' Semmes will be the guest speaker, and this year the Roller Coaster will be lit up red to acknowledge the 1 in 5. IDA Conference
Commemorative T-shirt
The design for the 2019 IDA National Conference Tee is by Riley Ann Hansen, dyslexic student, artist and graphic designer.

Riley developed the Oregon 70th anniversary commemorative shirt to reflect current design. She included elements of Portland’s surrounding beauty with the use of the Freemont bridge to represent the “Bridge City” and used the palette established by IDA headquarters for the motif.

Bridging the Gap in Oregon ” speaks to the education and inspiration of each and every dyslexia advocate as we push dyslexia research and mandates forward in Oregon and beyond.

If you are interested in ordering one of these t-shirts , please email rachel@orbida.org. In your email provide your (1) design choices, (2) size selections and (3) your cell phone number.  Rachel will follow up with you to arrange payment and confirm your purchase. Meet two more speakers who will be participating in the pre-conference symposium " Dyslexia Spells Success " on Thursday November 7, 2019.

During this symposium a panel of dynamic and successful individuals who are dyslexic and leaders in their respective fields, will talk about their challenges and unique skills as well as offer words of advice.
Jared Blank is a marathon runner who was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was five years old. As he moved through school, he learned that, for him, academic success would be a matter of hard work and endurance. When working with tutors he discovered that tasks that took someone else one hour, might take him three.
Today, Blank has run multiple marathons including the World Marathon (7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents). He has graduate degrees from Seattle Pacific University and the University of Southern California.
Todd "Hammer" Semmes has worked in safety and stunt rigging, production management, and assistant directing on countless productions for over 20 years. From his extensive background in the film industry, Hammer easily transitioned into his current career as co-owner and operator of Spydercam. As the CEO of Spydercam, he has won both an Oscar and an Emmy.
Lake Oswego School District Dyslexia Task Force
IDA-Oregon Student Empowerment Panel members, Bridget Barnett and Mac Filiault, have been selected to participate on the newly formed Dyslexia Task Force at Lake Oswego School District.

Mac is a junior at Lakeridge High School and enjoys fishing and competitive skeet shooting. Bridget is a junior at Lake Oswego High School and is a competitive rower and volleyball player. When they are not in school or exploring the great outdoors, both teens are student leaders in assistive technology demonstration events for the dyslexia community, and serve as panelists in IDA-Oregon's training sessions for educators, administrators and families.

Their advocacy experience will help them bring the voice of the dyslexic student to the task force, a committee which also includes administrators, general and special education teachers, and parents.

Thank you Bridget and Mac for Stepping Up for Dyslexia!
