A Note from the President & CEO

If you listen closely, you’ll soon hear the hum of open-wheel race cars permeating from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! May brings much to celebrate in Indiana, including the annual arrival of our friends from the Scottish Life Sciences Association (SLA). Once again, SLA’s intrepid leader, Scott Johnstone will bring a group of Scottish life sciences companies to Indiana in search of new business opportunities and partnerships.

We’ve had a flurry of very big and encouraging announcements from IU, Roche and Novartis who are all in the midst of expansions (see news section below). Our Indiana life sciences ecosystem will benefit from all of these exciting plans.

Another reminder to join us on May 7 for the BioBridge event. This is a great, informal way to keep in touch with life sciences colleagues you may not regularly meet. Registration and location details are below in the event section. We hope to see you there!

Indiana Life Sciences Association Supports Bill to Improve Patient Access to AI-Enabled Medical Technologies

With the rise in innovative AI medical technologies, we are proud to support the Health Tech Investment Act (S.1399) to establish a stable reimbursement pathway for devices regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). These technologies enable physicians to quickly analyze information, make more informed diagnoses, and improve patient care.

There is not currently a clear and consistent payment pathway for AI-enabled medical devices, potentially limiting their adoption and inhibiting access for patients. With this legislation, Congress will help to increase adoption and expand access to innovative AI technologies across the nation.

The Health Tech Investment Act was recently introduced in the Senate by Senators Mike Rounds and Martin Heinrich.
