Featured Board Member Profile
Marcio Amazonas

Why did I want to be elected to the ISBT board of directors?
In one word: Service. But I confess that it is both self-serving and to serve the professional network I cherish and to whom I owe a big chunk of my successes along my career. I think I took more than I was able to give back, despite having served on the Board and committees. The one area I believe I can still have unique contributions to is the international reach of our Society. We are continuously making progress and must not lose momentum.

How long have you been a member of ISBT?
I have joined the ISBT as soon as I moved to the US, in 1998. Since then I only missed one BevTech due to a work conflict.

How has membership benefited you?
It gave me high exposure inside my company and in the talent marketplace. I received the Best Paper Award in 1999, made numerous presentations at committee meetings and general sessions, joined the Board in 2002 and served as committee co-chair (Global Issues and Sustainable Packaging). But the personal relationships I was able to build, including with professionals from competing companies,
were invaluable and would not have been built anywhere else.

Provide us some of your contributions, projects, efforts or activities with ISBT?
In addition to the exposure indicated above, I would highlight the relentless investment made in Latin America since 2001, working closely with Alberto Helguera to create a regional event in Mexico, which we succeeded in 2002 (Water Technology Seminar), in 2007 (UV-Ozone Seminar) and, since 2012, with BevTech Latin America annual meetings.

What do you hope to accomplish as a board member?
Continuity of Latin American representation and expansion of membership to reach new regions via in person or virtual access to our content. Support for the committees to harmonize standards for the protection and continuous improvement of the beverage industry (main focus: sustainability issues such as microplastics, straws, recyclability and ocean plastic)

Are there any goals you would like to help the ISBT achieve?
Yes, increase membership numbers, promote new regional meetings and publication of new harmonized beverage standards (e.g. 100% recycled packaging). The main strategy to achieve these goals would be to strengthen the technical network of peer organizations.

What does being a member of the ISBT mean to you?
Our Society is made of individuals who generously share their time, expertise and contributions with their peers, shaping the Society’s reputation while strengthening their organizations’ leadership position. Members also help level the playing field by offering exposure to individuals and companies in less advantageous position, offering them a unique and safe space for technical collaboration and professional development.
Welcome, New Members!
ISBT is proud to announce we have gained 8 new members since August 1. Please join us in welcoming them to the association. (To view the list of new members, click the button below.) For information about joining ISBT, click Join ISBT below.
