New ISBT President Maria Piedad Lopez Reflects on BevTech 2022
Last week was our #BevTech2022 conference in Frisco, Texas, and it was wonderful to be back together in person! I still feel the excitement and energy built up during these days. I want to thank all members, delegates, general session speakers, technical committees, our generous sponsors, exhibitors, the planning committee, ISBT staff, the Board of Directors, and our team of volunteers for making the 69th ISBT BevTech conference a great event. We had an exciting program, including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events, sports activities, museum visits, fascinating presentations, and networking opportunities.
I also want to thank Sal Calandra, our immediate past president, who led ISBT in times of uncertainty with a new board structure and many other changes. We did well in the virtual events world. We continued delivering great content and added value for our members across the globe. More importantly, we maintained the Society's community spirit, and now we are back even stronger!

Congratulations to ISBT's New Board Members and Officers!
It takes a lot of personal commitment to help guide an organization such as ISBT. Please help us recognize those members who were recently elected to serve as board members for the next term. You know them from their work on Technical Committees and during BevTech. Please welcome Neil Marshall, Tricia O’Connell, Emilia Rico, and Sanjay Srivatsa as your new board members. Feel free to reach out to them with your own personal congratulatory note!
|
|
Also, during our Business Meeting, it was the privilege of Sal Calandra (now Vice President of Operations) to announce he was passing the ISBT gavel to Maria Piedad Lopez as your next President. Supporting her will be Matt Lecky as Vice President of BevTech and Andrea Belford as Vice President of Technical Content. ISBT is in great hands, and we look forward to exciting new times for the Society!

Johannes Angres, Jim Barker, Manus Mitchell, and Uche Uchenye have rolled off the board at this time. We greatly appreciate their service.

Dr. Manus Mitchell, Ph.D., Named to ISBT Circle of Honor
The International Society of Beverage Technologist (ISBT) is the premier international technical society for the beverage industry. The ISBT is unique in being the only organization whose sole interest is the technical and scientific aspects of soft drinks and beverages.
The Circle of Honor is the ISBT's highest honor and has only been awarded 14 times in the 69-year history of the Society. Each of the recipients has demonstrated selfless dedication and leadership to further the efforts of ISBT and the beverage industry over their careers.
At the 69th annual meeting of the ISBT in Frisco, Texas, Dr. Manus Mitchell became the 15th member to be awarded this honor.

BevTech 2022 Service Project Benefits C5 Foundation
ISBT launched a new era at the annual BevTech event in Frisco, Texas. In addition to the standard BevTech program, attendees were offered community outreach opportunities. We partnered with C5, an organization whose mission is to change the odds of success for high-potential teens from under-resourced communities by inspiring them to pursue personal success while preparing them for leadership roles in college, work, and their communities.
On Sunday, May 1, several ISBT members worked with students from the Dallas chapter of C5 to rehabilitate a community garden run by a local church. The garden provides fresh fruits and vegetables to local families who may not otherwise have access to these items.
On Tuesday evening, May 3, several ISBT members participated in a leadership summit with C5’s Dallas students. They broke out into small groups for discussion on leadership, life skills, networking, and planning for a successful future. ISBT also presented a scholarship check to one of the C5 students (Sebastien) to help further his education.
These were powerful, emotional, and inspiring experiences for all that participated. Special thanks to the C5 leadership team for helping to make this happen!

ISBT Seeks New Business Development Committee Leader
ISBT has five operating committees - Membership, Finance & Treasury, Marketing, Strategy, and Business Development. We are currently looking for a volunteer who wishes to take on the role of leading the Business Development Committee.
The Business Development Chair is a volunteer position that leads and encourages the members of the committee to create and deliver on a wide range of opportunities that will protect and grow the long-term income of the Society. For example, the committee made an important contribution recently by delivering the Enterprise Agreement license platform. Enterprise Agreements are a new income stream that create value for members of ISBT and their companies by bundling the products and services of the Society in a flexible format. Members’ companies can more easily integrate the output of the Society back into their organizations, ensuring that internationally recognized publications and technical education can be utilized to their fullest extent.
Are you a current member of the Society who plays an active role in the commercial activity of your own company and would take a keen interest in playing a leading role in the future success of the Society? The role of the Chair is to lead a team of commercially-minded professionals from the beverage industry who are current ISBT members. He or she will be responsible for steering the work of the group and reporting on the opportunities, progress against goals, and results to ISBT’s Vice President of Operations.
The position is open to any current member of the society. To find out more or to apply for this exciting position, please contact Brian Stegmann.
