The Circle of Honor is the ISBT’s highest honor and has only been awarded 13 times in the 67-year history of the Society. Each of the recipients have demonstrated selfless dedication and leadership to further the efforts of ISBT and the beverage industry over their careers. 

President of ISBT, Dr. Manus Mitchell, has announced that Sally Potter has been recognized with the ISBT Circle of Honor! The exemplary leadership that Sally has provided the society and industry will be memorialized through this award. Thanks to Sally, we see the continued growth and successes of ISBT and the Beverage Institute by ISBT long into the future! Sally is a hugely deserving recipient of this lifetime achievement award.

Sally has a long record of successful service with the ISBT.

  • She has been a member of ISBT for 20 years and served in many roles that have helped shape the organization. 
  • She served as President in 2014 and was an integral part of ISBT Board of Directors for 12 years.
  • Sally spent 25 years of her career at the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta.
  • After her decision to retire from Coca-Cola, she took on the role of ISBT Education Director where she led the creation of Beverage Institute by ISBT. 
  • Her extensive background in the beverage industry gave her the tools that have enabled her to successfully create and lead the Beverage Institute by ISBT.  

We thank Sally for her distinguished service to the society and industry, and we wish her continued success in her retirement with her husband, two children, and three beautiful grandchildren.

Introducing Tom Reimer: The new ISBT Director of Education

Tom has been an involved member of ISBT for 37 years, filling many roles. He has been a TC Chair, winner of the Best Committee Award, President in 2002, a board member for several years, served as Treasurer, and won the prestigious Circle of Honor Award in 2012. A degreed engineer from Georgia Tech, he has 32 years of beverage experience, spending 10-years with Coca-Cola Bottling, followed by executive roles in engineering, operations, supply chain and new product innovation for Tropicana (PepsiCo).

Introducing Julie Rice Suggs, PhD: Academic Director at The Packaging School

Julie has been working on Beverage Institute content for the past two years and will continue in that role, working closely with Tom on developing and disseminating Beverage Institute courses. Julie obtained her PhD in Food Technology at Clemson University. She is currently the Academic Director for The Packaging School, which offers 100% online and affordable specialized certificate programs and courses in the packaging industry.

Julie has published ten papers in various prestigious packaging journals. During her time at Clemson, Julie has traveled to Campinas, São Paulo , Brazil to present her research at the International Association of Packaging Research Institutes Conference. Julie has also presented at BevTech and enjoys interacting with members and subject matter experts within the Society.

In her spare time, Julie takes part in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.

The Retail Equipment and Fountain Technology Technical Committee provides a platform for information transfer and innovative technology for beverage products dispensed via fountain or other retail and marketing equipment. The committee is represented by beverage and liquid food producers, fountain and marketing equipment manufacturers, related suppliers and consultants, and service providers. These members openly share developments and technologies in order to support the retail and marketing segment of the beverage industry.

Upcoming Events

The 2020 ISBT European regional meeting will take place on Thursday the 10th of September from 14:00 to 18:00 Central European Time . Unlike previous years, we will meet and socialize on a virtual platform. 
Online registration will open soon so watch this space. All participants must be registered in order to receive a personal invitation. The BevTech® Europe Planning Committee would like to invite all current and potential members to share their industry insights and offer to make an online presentation during this fantastic event.
This year’s virtual conference will span a total of 4 hours, including:
·   Five presentations: each presentation with be 20 minutes (live or pre-recorded) + 10 minutes of questions/discussions live with the presenter.
·   One live panel discussion by some of the most influential specialists in the industry. This 50-minute discussion will highlight the knowledge gained from managing COVID-19 impacts at different stages of the supply chain. 
·   Two virtual “coffee breaks” with about 20-minutes allocated for each break.

PepsiCo CEO Discusses Strategy to Move Forward in Pandemic - PepsiCo saw a strong Q1: but as with any business faces a great deal of uncertainly around COVID-19. It says its strategy is to identify and plan for a ‘new normal’ – and tailor innovation accordingly.

Messer Americas Promotes Environmental Stewardship - Aligned with the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Messer Americas has recommitted itself to promoting environmental stewardship.

PepsiCo, Mastercard Team Up to Donate $1M to White Plains Hospital - Mastercard and PepsiCo announced the formation of a local community partnership that establishes a $1 million, two-year fund that would go toward White Plains Hospital. Initial funding will provide personal protective equipment to workers and help the hospital increase its capacity, according to a news release.
