As a part of the global Giving Tuesday initiative on Nov. 30, 2021, Georgian College launched a one-day digital appeal through the Grizzlies Give Back program. With the help of matching funds from Johnson Insurance, Georgian's preferred home and automobile insurance provider, Georgian alumni raised $20,000 to help support the Frontline Support: Health-care Heroes Closer to Home campaign, as well as other student success initiatives. For students like Lisette Verzijlenberg, a BScN student in the Georgian/York collaborative program, these funds mean peace of mind when they are focused on their studies.

Members of the Georgian College Students’ Association – Barrie (GCSA) were recently honoured for their ongoing efforts to support students, both at home and abroad, with the 2021 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Central Ontario Chapter.

In raising over $6,000 to support their peers in India during the country’s devastating second wave, the GCSA has helped elevate the voices of countless youth in need of support during the COVID-19 pandemic. In early May 2021, India was seeing more than 400,000 new COVID-19 cases a day while fatalities were topping 4,500 a day.
