Dear Prairie Avenue Family,
And now it is May! Our recent weather pattern has certainly made the green grass (and its weeds) grow in abundance! We will continue our growth season in understanding the history, beliefs, and practices of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) this Sunday as we look a little deeper into our historic roots and how they influence our faith expression as a congregation.
DISCIPLES OF CHRIST SERIES CONTINUES THIS SUNDAY: Last week, we shared a little overview of the general story of the Stone-Campbell movement. We take scripture seriously and use tools such as context, whether historical, critical, or theological, to help us bridge the gap between the time the text was written and our place and time. We have always sought unity among believers, though at times failing to be its best representatives. We always gather around the table, regardless of our faults or disagreements, recognizing the beauty and diversity of God's called people in full expression.
This week, we will continue our less formal gathering in the narthex to dig a little deeper into our heritage and its shape. I look forward to our conversation and communion.
EASTER OFFERING UPDATE: Our total is $287.00 for general ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). You may still contribute to the offering here.
DOVE, INC. OUTREACH PROJECT: Our collection is diapers (all sizes) and/or personal hygiene items.
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS UPDATE: Thank you for your generous support through the Kroger Community Rewards program in support of Prairie Avenue Christian Church. During January-March 2025, 13 households generated a donation of $25.36. We will receive this donation in the next couple of weeks. If you have not signed up to credit Prairie Avenue Christian Church every time you shop at Kroger, visit their customer service desk to set up your donation.
ASSEMBLY REGISTRATIONS OPEN: The General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will gather in person from Saturday, July 12th to Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, in Memphis, TN. This year’s General Assembly theme: “BEYOND” is based on Ephesians 3:20-21.
Now to the one who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to the power that is at work within us, to them be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen!
