MCPS Volunteering Requirements
The current MCPS website states that MCPS will allow volunteers to serve in-person. We are not sure if this policy will change. At this time, we are negotiating with MCPS regarding new programs and we will keep you informed when positions open.
According to the MCPS website, to volunteer, volunteers will need to meet MCPS requirements.
- Each volunteer will need to go through the MCPS fingerprinting and badging process. Many of our volunteers have done so. MCPS badges are valid for one year.
- Additionally, volunteers must watch an online MCPS webinar, “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse.” Certification from viewing the webinar is valid for three years.
- There are also new MCPS forms;. one for in-person volunteering and another for virtual volunteering.
- Lastly, MCPS is requiring proof of vaccination. The JCA Heyman Interages Center noted the vaccination of volunteers who emailed a copy of the vaccination card, but as a policy, we did not keep the copy of the card. MCPS's requirement that volunteers show proof of vaccination is a separate process.
Please note, things are in flux at this time. We are available to help you through the process and we are monitoring the changing policies as the school year unfolds. Contact Indira Dingledine, Volunteer Manager email at idingledine@accessjca.org or call (301 255-4239.

We bid a fond farewell to Interages Program Coordinator,
Veronica Penaranda
A message from Veronica:
After five years at JCA, it is time to move on. I leave the company with great sadness since this organization was very kind to me and gave me many opportunities throughout the years. I will be working at Identity, a non-profit organization that creates opportunities for Latino and other historically underserved youth. I am taking the position of Special Projects Manager there.
I will miss my team and my dearest volunteers. I wish Interages and JCA the best for the future, and I know that it will keep on thriving as it has always been doing it.

Interages Interview
Interages was so pleased with the Zoom interview conducted by a young person of Interages Founder Austin Heyman that we started a regular interview program. The students earn Service Learning hours for their time preparing and interviewing. Previous interviews are available on our website.
In this issue, we present an interview between young volunteer Selena and Maureen Dwyer, Executive Director of the Sitar Arts Center. Click here for the interview.

Loaves of Love
Volunteers are needed at JCA headquarters in Rockville for “Loaves of Love,” a once-a-month (on a Friday) delivery of challah bread to older adults living in Montgomery County. Challah symbolizes tradition, home, and togetherness, and is a way to share our Jewish heritage with others. Help older adults feel connected to their community by delivering this fresh-baked act of kindness. For more information and dates, please email Colleen Kemp ckemp@accessjca.org

Did you know that there is a contest for Potato Photographer of the Year? It was created "to celebrate the trusty spud, and to raise funds to help people in food poverty via The Trussell Trust." Here are this year's winning entries, as featured in The Guardian newspaper:
