Hello JCA Interages Volunteers,
We hope this finds you in good spirits, enjoying the start of fall. In this issue, we bring you news of new MCPS volunteering requirements, as the school district manages COVID-19 mitigation efforts and the return of thousands of people into the schools. We at Interages are here to help with new processes and procedures.

NEW!! UPDATE: MCPS Volunteering Requirements
According to the MCPS website, volunteers will need to meet MCPS requirements.
- Each volunteer will need to go through the MCPS fingerprinting and badging process. An online appointment is necessary and JCA Heyman Interages must have a record of the appointment. Many of our volunteers have done so. MCPS badges are valid for one year. If you already have gone through fingerprinting, you do not have to be fingerprinted again.
- Additionally, volunteers must watch an online MCPS webinar, “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse.” Certification from viewing the webinar is valid for three years.
- There are also new MCPS forms; one for in-person volunteering and another for virtual volunteering.
-
Lastly, MCPS is requiring proof of vaccination for both in-person and virtual volunteering. This process involves downloading a Certification of Vaccination from the State Department of Health or a letter from a doctor attesting that the volunteer was vaccinated. The document is then uploaded to https://classroom.mcpsmd.org/ as a guest. CDC Vaccination cards will not be accepted by MCPS. For more explicit instructions, please contact Indira Dingledine, Volunteer Manager, at idingledine@accessjca.org, or call (202) 441-0357.
- The JCA Heyman Interages Center noted the vaccination of volunteers who emailed a copy of the CDC vaccination card, but as a policy, we did not keep the copy of the card. MCPS's requirement that volunteers show proof of vaccination is a separate process.
-
If you have met all of the requirements, and your badge is expiring, you will need to go to the MCPS office during the month of expiration. No appointment is necessary.
