COVID-19 VACCINES
President Biden has directed states, Tribes, and territories to make all adults eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine no later than May 1. Maryland and Montgomery County maintain separate priority lists - the state and county vaccine websites provide information about when and where you may be vaccinated, and how to preregister if you are eligible:

SHARE From A Distance
SHARE From A Distance provides meaningful connections between young people and older adults.
|
|
JOIN SHARE FROM A DISTANCE AND BECOME A PEN PAL
Are you or someone you know interested in being matched with a young person to exchange letters back and forth? Build relationships with a young person during this difficult time when people of ALL ages are feeling isolated and eager to make connections. Only first names are given and all correspondence is filtered through JCA staff.
You can choose to write to a student via email or postal mail. We have more than 50 pen pal pairs.
Thanks for your help and support!

Interages Interview Program
As we mentioned in a past newsletter, Interages had such success having a young person conduct a Zoom interview of the Interages Founder, Austin Heyman, that we started an interviewing program. At this time, five students, grades 7-12, have been recruited to conduct interviews. The students earn Service Learning hours for their time preparing and interviewing. Thanks go to Kay Klass, an Interages volunteer, who trained the youth on how to conduct interviews.
In this issue, we highlight Annika, a dedicated volunteer and 6th-grade student who interviewed John Shuchart, founder of The Shuchart Group, an organization committed to ending the mental illness stigma once and for all. Mr. Shuchart has written three books including, “Israeli Kids Letters to Terrorists." To view the interview click here.

Ciara (17) and Jasmine (15) are homeschooled sisters in Frederick, MD. Ciara enjoys reading, ballet, and painting while Jasmine prefers to study voice, fashion trends, and hip hop. In their free time, they enjoy volunteering for Interages in the Spanish Club, which meets with JCA Kensington Club members every other Wednesday evening. In the Interages Spanish Club, middle and high school students from Montgomery County learn and apply Spanish language teaching methods while interacting with Kensington Club members with early dementia.
