Hello JCA Interages Volunteers,
Rosh Hashanah ushers in the beginning of the Jewish year and change marked by the harvest season. In celebration, we added to this newsletter the Challah recipe of our own Phyllis Solomon, Interages Program Coordinator, We wish everyone, whether or not you celebrate Jewish holidays, health, happiness, and peace.

JOIN SHARE FROM A DISTANCE AND BECOME A PEN PAL
Are you or someone you know interested in being matched up with a young person to send letters back and forth?
Build relationships with youth during this difficult time when people of ALL ages are feeling isolated and eager to make connections. Only first names are given and all correspondence is filtered through JCA staff. You can choose to write to youth via email or postal mail. Lastly, if you know someone else who might be interested, please send them our way!

INTERGENERATIONAL INTERVIEWS: SEEKING PARTICIPANTS
We want to mention a new project that JCA Interages is working on. Hopefully you saw our last Interages Newsletter that featured a wonderful interview of Austin Heyman, the founder of Heyman Interages. We want to continue to create those types of interviews to highlight the interesting and important work that people in our community are doing. We hope that you might know some of these people. Having a high school student interview a senior really focuses on the intergenerational nature of our mission. Please reach out to me with any contacts you might have. Thanks so much.

Unique Interages Spanish Club
Interages will be partnering with the Kensington Club in a unique Spanish Club Program. Interages volunteers who are Spanish teachers will provide youth Interages Volunteers with different skills on how to teach Spanish and how to be a facilitator. They also will provide different materials in Spanish for each session. In turn, the youth Interages volunteers, who are high school and middle school students, will teach Spanish to Kensington Club participants who have early stage dementia.

JCA Kensington Club has a friendly chat phone program for older adults living with early-stage memory loss called "Phone Pals." We are looking for phone volunteers to make 1-3 calls (approximately 10-15 min. per call) a week to help decrease isolation and keep social connections strong during the pandemic. We can offer an individual Zoom training and a handbook to get you started. Please contact Lily Groh: [email protected] for more information. |

EARLY VOTING CENTERS OPEN OCT. 26 TO NOV. 2 IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Montgomery County voters can cast their ballots for the Nov. 3, 2020, General Election at eleven Early Voting Centers from Oct. 26 through Nov. 2. The hours of operation for each early voting center is 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Any registered voter may cast a ballot at any one of these sites using the same voting equipment that will be available on Election Day. For more information, click here.

pull-apart challah
Phyllis’ challah recipe
1/4 c sugar
One packet of yeast
One cup of warm water
Combine and let it activate which means it kind of bubbles on top- for about 1 min
Mix it in Cuisinart for about 30 seconds. Then add 3 cups of bread flour and one egg and mix again.
Add 1/4 cup peanut oil, 1 tablespoon kosher salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and mix again.
Add one more cup of bread flour and mix again.
Put it into a medium-size bowl and cover it with a clean dish towel and let it rise for 2 1/2 hours.
Separate into 9 round balls and put one in the middle of a springform pan and put the other 8 around it. (They don't need to be touching) Put it back in the oven and cover it for another 1.5 hours.
Take it out and brush it with egg and sprinkle it with whatever you like; we like sesame and poppyseeds.
Bake it at 350 for 30 minute
