Staying in Touch
Hello JCA Interages Volunteers
It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Austin Heyman, a beloved figure and dedicated advocate for the seniors and youth of Montgomery County. Austin's profound impact on our community, from his founding of Interages to his visionary leadership in shaping senior services and intergenerational programs, leaves an indelible mark on our hearts and minds. His unwavering commitment to public service, exemplified through his extensive career in federal government administration and his instrumental role in county initiatives, will be remembered as a testament to his selflessness and dedication to making our world a better place. His family shared that even through his last days and hours, he remained incredibly engaged with his family, friends, and community – even testifying virtually last week on behalf of seniors at a Montgomery County Council budget hearing.
As we reflect on Austin's life and legacy, let us cherish the memories of his tireless advocacy, compassionate leadership, and boundless generosity. The JCA Heyman Interages® Center stands as a testament to his enduring impact, and his spirit will continue to inspire us as we strive to carry forward his vision of a more inclusive and vibrant community. Austin's memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us of the profound difference one individual can make in the lives of others.
You can watch a video of Austin Heyman interviewed by a high school student HERE.

IMPORTANT MCPS REQUIREMENT FOR VOLUNTEERING
MCPS requires that all volunteers watch an online webinar on Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse every three academic years. So, if you watched the webinar in 2021 or earlier, you will need to now watch the updated webinar again. Please be sure to choose the 23-24 version of the webinar.
Watch the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Webinar through the link below. After clicking through the webinar, a gradesheet will show 100% for successful completion. It takes about 50 minutes to watch. Your certification is valid for three years.

Introducing an innovative collaborative initiative between JCA Interages and the renowned Clancyworks Dance Company:

Tailored for high school students and JCA Interages volunteers, our sessions blend gentle movement, dance, dialogue, crafts, icebreaker activities, and storytelling. With a focus on inclusivity, we offer seated movement options, ensuring accessibility for all participants.
Our mission is to foster intergenerational connections by leveraging the power of dance and other art forms to ignite meaningful dialogue. Our sessions will run every Monday until June 10th, with additional dates on June 6th and 7th (excluding Memorial Day and selected days during spring break), from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM.
It's not too late! Join us as we embark on a journey of exploration and connection, where diverse ages and backgrounds converge through the universal language of movement and creativity.
