JCA Interages in the news! Libraries Launch ‘Read Across Generations’ to Boost Summer Reading Skills. MCM Daily Insider

For the article, click here.

Several Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) are reviving the "Read Across Generations" program to enrich younger students' reading experiences. Tailored for children from kindergarten to third grade, this initiative pairs each child with a volunteer for engaging one-on-one reading sessions. "Read Across Generations" is a vibrant partnership between MCPL, the Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA)'s Heyman Interages program.

MUSIC APPRECIATION: JCA Interages/Kensington Clubs

This summer, the Interages Center is partnering with the Kensington Clubs (KC), an adult day program that engages elderly adults with memory loss-dementia. Youth volunteers, JCA adult volunteers, and seniors will participate in-person in four shared Music Therapy classes at the KC White Oak Senior Center.

Students participating will earn five SSL hours if attending all four sessions and orientation.

MONTHLY READING TUTOR

TRAINING SERIES

We hope you will join us on Zoom for our monthly Reading Tutor Training series. These sessions are helpful for any volunteers. We are so grateful to presenter Megan Bainbridge, Reading Specialist of the Captain James E. Daly Elementary School, who is leading the sessions. Each session focuses on a different Reading Tutor Training topic, and lasts about an hour. Pre-registration online is required.

Please note: these sessions provide broad tips and are not intended to be certification level training.

Thank you Megan for all you did this past year. These sessions will resume in September, after the summer break. Hope you have a wonderful summer, in the mean time recorded sessions are noted below.
