We come to find out what happens when prayer can be joyous, soul-centering, and transformational.

Please join Rabbi David and Courtney for our monthly Shabbat morning program for families with young children, Kinderlach (ages birth-4) & Gesher (ages 5 +). We will learn about celebrating Shavuot, the day Moses received the Torah, and our Gesher group will have a chance to get a close up look at our Torah! Traditionally, many Jewish communities eat lots of cheese during this celebration. We will partake in this tradition, learn why, and learn about cheese making with Abe, Zeke and Jonah’s dad, Nat (Manager of the Jasper Hill Farm Creamery).



As always, plan to stay afterwards for an informal vegetarian potluck beginning at 11:00 a.m. JCOGS will provide bagels and cream cheese.

The annual Ecumenical Candlelight Service for Remembrance of Hope is set for Saturday, May 5. The service, held at Stowe Community Church, will begin at 7:30 p.m.

This interfaith service, presented by the Greater Stowe Interfaith Coalition, is one of the most poignant elements of Stowe’s Weekend of Hope. Through meditative music, heartfelt readings, and memorial candle-lighting, those gathered will honor and remember cancer survivors. The greater community is welcome to attend.

The Greater Stowe Interfaith Coalition includes as its members: St. John’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church, JCOGS, Stowe Community Church, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Stowe, and Baha’is of Stowe.

“Wasted! The Story of Food Waste” will be shown on Monday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Crosby Center in Morrisville. Staffers from Salvation Farms will facilitate the Q-and-A after the viewing.



Taking an entertaining approach to a critical 

21st century issue, this lively documentary addresses the sad reality that 90 percent of food waste ends up in landfills. Through the eyes of famous chefs, viewers will witness how they make the most of every kind of food, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system.

Friday Night – Celebrate Shabbat at JCOGS with community. Out of towners can make their own camping arrangements at Smugglers Notch Campground. 

6 p.m. Kabbalat Shabbat Service.

Saturday afternoon – Hike to the beautiful Bingham Falls for a mikveh (ritual bath/water dipping) to prepare ourselves for receiving the Torah.  You don't have to go in the water to participate and enjoy the ritual. Come for the hike, for the community, for the beauty of our landscape, and the teachings. Saturday evening - Potluck dinner, blintzes, and learning at JCOGS. An evening of storytelling for all ages and late night Torah teac hings, as well as Havdalah (ritual to end Shabbat and bring in Shavuot).  Everyone is invited to sleepover at JCOGS either in a tent outside or in our building! 

Sunday morning - Share in a guided family hike as we pilgrimage together to the Mountain Chapel on Mt Mansfield, for a musical celebration and receiving of the 10 commandments led by Rabbi David and Rabbi Jan Salzman!

Join us for this weekend of fun, celebration, and learning!

5:30 p.m. On this last day of Shavuot, we will gather for a Yizkor memorial service in memory of those beloved who have passed. This is a time to consider those in our lives who have made an indelible impact and the loss left in their passing from this world.

6 p.m . The custom on Shavuot is to eat cheese, to embody the teaching that the Holy Land “flows with milk and honey.” Following the service, we will gather for a milchedik vegetarian cheese-infused potluck dinner. Please bring a cheese dish to share.

Beloved pianist Michael Arnowitt returns to Montpelier to present a program surveying the music of iconic Jewish composer Aaron Copland, who created what is considered today to be a distinctively American sound in classical music. Michael Arnowitt will perform and discuss music from Copland’s Four Piano Blues, Piano Variations, El Salon Mexico, and Copland’s famous Appalachian Spring

and the music he wrote for the film version of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town.
