People who exercise regularly are less likely to develop heart disease, stroke and diabetes, which are all associated with an increased risk of dementia.

Physical activity also pumps blood to the brain, which nourishes the cells with nutrients and oxygen, and may even encourage new cells. As well, regular exercise helps to reduce stress and improve your mood.

Hi I'm Sharon O!

I am a First Link Care Navigator with ASHPE. I work, along with Petra Lepage, as one of the first points of contacts for people and families when they connect with the Alzheimer Society. My role is to help people navigate the different community and social services that exist and link them up with our Educational Support Service Coordinators and the various educational, social and support services that we offer as a Society. You may have also met me filling in at support groups or plate mates. I am also fortunate to be able to lead the Memory Café for the Belleville area and (soon) the new Minds in Motion program starting virtually on Wednesday, June 3/20!

You can reach out to me at [email protected] or 613-962-0892
My Hobbies
My number one hobby would be singing and playing piano. I play mostly by ear, so if you sing me the tune, I can likely play it back for you. (My piano teacher never thought this a cute trick when I was young and she wanted me to read the notes). I lead a praise team at my church and hold some of the most amazing vocal concerts while driving in my car. I also love writing, swimming, kayaking, being in nature and spending as much time as possible with my 2 beautiful grandchildren and family.
My Favourite Movie
My all-time favourite heart-warming movie is While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock. It is a beautiful funny Christmas love story that makes you want to phone your family and tell them you love them.
What I'm Reading
My favourite author is Maeve Binchy. I think I may have read everything she has written. Maeve’s stories all take place in Ireland and her characters are interesting and weave in and out of her all novels seamlessly. Another book I found to be very meaningful is Brene Brown’s Daring Greatly. Right now I am reading a light and silly book I nabbed at our book sale called The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg.
My Favourite Tv Shows
I like shows that have some action and scenery, but are not too scary and a little on the lighter side. Some of my favourites (found on Netflix) are Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Psych, Hawaii Five-O, Death in Paradise and Life in Pieces.
My Mood-Boosting Recipe
One of our family favourites comes out of my husband’s Hungarian heritage. Lecso is a Hungarian Pepper Stew that is nice any time of year and is made with bell peppers, onions, garlic and tomatoes. I love mine with sweet paprika added to the sauce. It can also have smoked bacon in it but I prefer it with chopped up sausages or it can be served as a vegetarian dish if you like. We like to serve it over a Hungarian egg noodles called Tarhonya. Click here for the recipe.
Come back next week to learn about someone else on the ASHPE Team!
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
Sincerely ,
