Goodbye January and welcome February! Let me open by saying that traveling to Tampa and Orlando from Dahlonega, GA for two Alumni Gatherings in the middle of January wasn’t such a tough assignment. Many thanks to Jesse, ‘59 and Glenda, ‘58 Varnadoe in Tampa and LTG (Ret.) Randy Mixon, ‘75 in Orlando for helping with dinner locations and details. I needed to check on the good folks in warm, sunny Florida and look forward to doing the same this month as I head out to California and Texas for a few days. If you are in San Diego, Dallas, Fort Hood, or San Antonio, I look forward to saying hello the third week in February. If you haven’t already, there is still time to register at Upcoming Alumni Gatherings.

Many of you received a postcard these past few weeks with my signature asking you to call in so the University of North Georgia Office of Alumni Relations can verify your information. Admittedly, I’d forgotten these postcards were going out, but yes we do need you to touch base and make sure your profile, including contact information, is correct in our database otherwise, you will continue to receive postcards. We, like alumni associations all over the country attempt a complete review of all alumni records every seven or eight years or so to verify we have your correct information. As I've said before, database information becomes obsolete very fast. People move and living arrangements change. Email addresses become obsolete, as do old landline phone numbers, thus the occasional review by a private company who does this work on our behalf.

All I ask is that you call the number on the postcard or emails you have received. You are welcome to call me directly, and I’d certainly love to say hello just for the sake of saying it, but I am not the one to change your information in our database. Oftentimes I do more damage than good when I am in there! In the interim, if you have called in and continue to get postcards, please ignore them. And finally, thank you so much from the UNGAA Board of Directors for supporting this endeavor. If you will indulge us, the end results allow us to serve all North Georgia alumni more efficiently.

On another vein altogether, under the leadership of MG (Ret.) Jim Cravens, ‘66, the UNGAA Governance Committee has worked very diligently over to past six weeks to make the UNGAA Board of Directors nomination form available online. Those interested in serving on the UNGAA Board can either self-nominate or nominate someone else for service. For more information, a description of the duties and responsibilities of board members, and the nomination form can be found at UNGAA Board Nominations.

Similarly, the UNGAA Awards Committee, under the direction of Jim Brown, ‘95 is pleased to announce that the alumni award nomination forms are now also available online. Nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Alumni, Hall of Fame, Young Alumni, Distinguished Professor, Paul Hutcherson Award, and all other awards presented at the UNGAA Awards Banquet during Alumni Weekend are being accepted through the end of business, Thursday, February 28, 2019. The forms can be found at UNGAA Award Nomination Forms.

In closing I hope you have your calendars marked for Alumni Weekend 2019. Because Easter is late this year, Alumni Weekend will be Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28. More information to come soon, but we look forward to building on the efforts of the past two years with a crazy FUN event at Pine Valley on Saturday afternoon. So mark your calendars, plan on bringing your family and friends and join us for the weekend. Dahlonega will be hosting the annual Bear on the Square event that same weekend downtown, so there will be plenty to do to fill your agenda. Again, more to come soon!

Until March, stay warm (or if in Georgia, wear your sunscreen) and safe, and as always, reach out if you need anything!

Best,

Wendi
