As this is my last message, I would like to reiterate my gratitude to the volunteers as Directors, committee chairs, chapter officers and all who contribute to the CLSA forum. This organization is a dynamic one which addresses a multitude of issues. Is there room for improvement? Certainly, and that is our function – to identify those areas and develop solutions.

CLSA LOSES FRIEND, MIKE CURREN, LS 3168

Mike Curren left early on the morning of December 30 on what he promised to be "the ultimate road trip." As per his usual, he left no hint of his route or destination or even how long he planned to be away. I'm guessing that he'll be visiting long-time friends Ronnie "The Fox" LaPolice, Weasel, Bob Dawg, Von Ton the Atom Bomb, Pell Mel, and the Rag Man en route before meeting up with his parents and myriad other friends (whose names he could never remember but they always had a good time whenever they met).

They will be sworn in as an Officers at the Spring Business Meeting in March. Robert Miller, the NSPS incumbent Treasurer, was unopposed and will serve another two-year term. Please join us in congratulating them on their election and to also thank Steve Gould, Danny Martinez, and Matt Morris for their candidacies.

WHERE IN CA IS THIS?

The December “Where in CA is This?” had two winners, both from Yucaipa. Randy Mayer, PLS correctly identifying the photo writing “This photo was taken from Mt. San Jacinto looking northerly at the whitewater river as crosses under Route 10. The area is also known as Whitewater, also windy point. I recognized the fan shaped feature just above the dark ridge, which are percolation basins, then the rest of the pieces fell together. The dark lines are Interstate 10 and Route 111. The flowline to the left of the light-colored rock at the bottom left of the photo is Snow Creek, the Pacific Coast Trail follows it. I have lived in this area for almost my entire life, I know the view.”

Also correctly identifying the location as “the view looking north into Whitewater Canyon from the peak of San Jacinto” was Trevor Leja, PLS of Yucaipa. Although he had never been to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, Trevor recognized Whitewater Canyon from one time surveying at the top of Snow Peak. Both win a beverage at the next conference. A repeat winner also correctly identified the spot but asked not to be identified. That person says they are “in it for the sport, not for the prize…”

Try to identify the location of this month’s photo by Amanda Wyland. Submit your answer to: Rob McMillan.
